The Lone Granger
I can't wait for this game. VCU's unique offense is what has gotten them to this point, and I'm not sure that the Jayhawks are going to be able to match up too well against it. Sure, they are the better team, there is absolutely no question about that, but can they match up with the speed and shooting? VCU is focused on not getting good, quick looks near the bucket. They want good, quick looks at the three ball. Assuming their shots are falling, this could be a legitimate upset watch.
BasX
If KU keeps up the defensive intensity they have shown throughout the tournament, watch out.
La Bomba
I think we can all agree that Kansas has had the easiest path to the tournament. I love the Cinderella story behind VCU, but Kansas is playing their best basketball at the right time
Owner Real Deal Posted March 26, 2011 Author Owner Report Share Posted March 26, 2011 I think we can all agree that Kansas has had the easiest path to the tournament. That's true, but that wouldn't have been the case if all of the so-called "good teams" weren't falling. Right when the brackets were put up, it was Pitt who had the easiest road. Purdue, Louisville and Notre Dame were all supposedly threats to knock out Kansas (especially Louisville), and Florida State may have been the most dangerous of them all based on how well they were playing defense (and their size), and now all of them are gone. But if Kansas is beating the teams that defeated those, I mean, it's basically irrelevant. Teams like Richmond and VCU are proving to be better than most thought, but they don't match up with KU, and we have known for years that it's all about match-ups (and that's been pretty evident over the last two weeks). I think KU would've knocked off every team on the right side of that bracket anyway, and after seeing the way Sullinger was bullied by Josh Harrellson (Sully's points came when Josh was in foul trouble, either on the bench or just sticking his arms up), I believe he would've struggled just as much against the Morris twins or Robinson, and a KU team that is far, far better rebounding the ball. Make It Naaaashty
The teams that Kansas have played against don't determine how good they are to me. VCU is playing very confident so they better not take them lightely. If Kansas does move on which I expect, they will be knocked out by the Gators. BasX
After last year, KU doesn't take any teams lightly. The Morris Brothers will bully anyone that is put in front of them and again, it's KUs D at the PG position with TT and EJ that has set the tone for how good KU has been since TT came back from suspension. The key element is Brady and Reed hitting shots from the perimeter that opens up so much on offense. Hell let's not forget how good Selby can be. The Great iBoldin
Yeah, I don't think the Jayhawks are losing to anyone at this point. They were my pick at the start of the tournament and there's been nothing to suggest any differently. The way they physically dismantled Richmond was a thing of beauty. A 20 point win over a team like the Spiders is no easy feat. And I think VCU is on Richmond's level, maybe a little better. Â They can keep it close for awhile with their scrappy, up-tempo basketball, but the Jayhawks are too deep and have the shooting to beat anyone right now. I don't think Skeev or whatever the Rams throw at the Morris' or Robinson is going to be enough.
Built Ford Tough
VCU's energy on defense is really the difference so far. They are getting up on Kansas and not giving them any time to make decisions. They are doing a great job of cutting off driving lanes and jumping passing lanes. Their defense has been outstanding to start the game so far, which is why they are up by 7. Their offense hasn't been too shabby either. I don't expect this to continue, though. Built Ford Tough
Turnovers due to VCU's defense have been the main issue for Kansas thus far. ^_^

Built Ford Tough
Kansas' perimeter defense has been awful so far. How can you constantly give up all of these open looks from three? Add to that the fact that VCU's entire offense so far this game has been from behind the arc, and it makes it even worse that they are still getting all of these open looks. Run them off of the three point line at the very least, considering how much they have struggled inside the arc so far. Nice floater from Selby followed by some good defense from Kansas that forced a turnover. It was forced because they ran the VCU player off of the three point line. Why are the Morris twins jacking up threes? Kansas is playing like a bunch of inexperienced kids out there. AboveLegit
Finally the Morris twins are fighting down low in the paint, they need to just stay there and go back to the gameplan they had working at the beginning of the game.
Cobb
VCU by 14 at the half. Who expected that?

Cobb
Good pressure by VCU there which produced a turnover and foul.
Built Ford Tough
What a comeback. Wow. It isn't really a surprise. The reason why VCU was up 14 (which isn't even that big of a lead considering the talent discrepency between these teams) was because of how much energy they were excerting on the defensive end and how ridiculously hot they were form three. You had to imagine that they would cool down from deep and Kansas would eventually get going offensively. If anybody thought that Kansas wouldn't at least make a comeback, they are delusional. It also doesn't hurt that VCU can't keep Kansas off of the glass. They are getting 2 or 3 shots everytime down the floor.
