The Goods
A huge advertisement featuring boxing’s No. 1 fighter Manny Pacquiao and basketball’s premier player Kobe Bryant is in the cusp of completion as the two sporting heroes pose alongside each other on July 8 for sports apparel leader Nike. The shoot will be held in Los Angeles, according to Pacquiao’s lawyer Franklin Gacal, who disclosed that streamers and posters of Pacquiao and Bryant will be displayed in all Nike stores across the US. Pacquiao had done a similar commercial with Nike in the past featuring other endorsers like Maria Sharapova and Roger Federer of tennis, Xiang Liu of athletics, Cristiano Ronaldo of football and Bryant but they were all filmed separately since their respective schedules won’t jive for them to be available in a particular time and date. Pacquiao is regarded as boxing’s No. 1 attraction, the same thing with Bryant, who is considered the lifeblood of the Los Angeles Lakers, the reigning NBA champions. Pacquiao and Bryant are both 30 years old and come from diverse backgrounds. Pacquiao is nickamed Pacman, while Bryant is sometimes referred to as Black Mamba. Apart from Nike, Pacquiao is also the main endorser of San Miguel Corporation and a bevy of consumer goods while dabbling as recording artist, TV and film actor and budding politician. Meanwhile, Gacal revealed that the proposed November 14 showdown between Pacquiao and Miguel Cotto is far from being done. “We have yet to see a copy of the proposal (of Top Rank head Bob Arum),” said Gacal, referring to the document that Pacquiao adviser Mike Koncz will hand-carry from the US tomorrow. “I still believe that a catchweight of 143 or 144 lbs be imposed,” said Gacal, reiterating that the Filipino lefty will be at a disadvantage fighting somebody who has found his comfort zone at the welterweight class of 147 lbs. “Manny weighed in at 142 against Oscar De La Hoya when the agreed weight was 147 lbs. Manny can even make 135 lbs (lightweight),” said Gacal, stressing that against Ricky Hatton last May, “Manny tipped the scales at 138 lbs" when the limit was 140 lbs. http://www.mb.com.ph/node/204707
