Built Ford Tough
Time to sweat: Bryan Colangelo, Raptors: The Raptors' complicated ownership group has to decide whether to pick up options for Colangelo and coach Jay Triano, and the early indications are that the coach has a better chance of staying. Although ownership was on board with Colangelo's plan to deal with the aftermath of Chris Bosh's departure -- rebuild with youth and picks rather than sacrifice the future -- there's a level of disappointment that the team hasn't accomplished more at this stage of Colangelo's tenure. One source described Colangelo's future as "definitely up in the air." There's also a feeling that Triano has done his part under difficult circumstances to develop young players -- such as Jerryd Bayless, DeMar DeRozan and especially Ed Davis -- and that if someone is going to get blamed, it won't be Triano. That leaves only one other candidate. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/story/14903483/postups-important-mvp-race-deserves-hard-consideration This was from Berger. There is also speculation that should Triano be let go from the Raptors, he could end up in New York: If Knicks team president Donnie Walsh decides he does not want to be here next season, one solid candidate was at the Garden last night -- Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo. Colangelo's deal with Toronto expires on June 30 and his future is very up in the air, according to league sources. The Raptors are going through a part-ownership change that has derailed any sort of extension talks with Colangelo, who hired Mike D'Antoni in Phoenix and is still very close to him. If D'Antoni and his coaching staff is part of James Dolan's future, hiring Colangelo makes a lot of sense. Colangelo, who had rousing success with the Suns, is amidst a major rebuilding project in Toronto, which is 21-56 after last night's no-show 131-118 loss to the Knicks. Sources say Colangelo prefers to stay in Toronto but he could well become one of the hot free-agent executives on the market, having once sent Stephon Marbury to New York to clear cap space for Steve Nash. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/knicks/if_walsh_goes_colangelo_could_be_gTcxMI19GGRqtyrsIq1S4O?CMP=OTC-rss&FEEDNAME= I'm getting to the point where I don't care whether or not Colangelo comes back, I just want this circus to come to an end. It seems like a new report comes out every week. One minute he is "99% likely to get a 5 year deal" and the next he has one foot out of the door. It is getting old, lol. Check my Stats
Give him a 3 year deal, take it or leave it, and call it a day. Keep Triano one more year, let the vets go so he is forced to develop the young guys. Then fire him the year after (transfer him or whatever) and bring in an established coach or an assistant with a track record on a good team. Hopefully the ownership stuff is taken care of soon as well.
