Morey's contract expires, status described as ''questionable''

Rick Adelman, Rockets: Everyone's contract is up in Houston, including Adelman's. There's no doubt he's one of the game's finest coaches. But with Yao Ming's future up in the air, it could be time for Adelman to move on. When Portland gave Nate McMillan an extension last month, it opened the door for the Rockets to do the same with Adelman. But sources say communication and trust aren't great between Adelman and owner Leslie Alexander, who may conclude that it's time for a different direction. Then there is the uncertain future of GM Daryl Morey, whose contract also is up and whose status was described by one industry source as "questionable."

I had no clue whatsoever that Morey's contract expired this season, I don't think anyone in Clutchfans was even aware too. Honestly, this has to be the worst piece of news of the season. Daryl Morey is an incredible GM and there shouldn't be any question about future. Les please bring this guy back next season.

Lazy reporting?

After three years of a largely successful retooling of the Rockets' roster and the team's first playoff series win in a dozen years, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has signed a contract to remain with the team, multiple individuals with knowledge of the deal said Thursday.

The contract will keep Morey, 37, with the Rockets through the 2012-13 season, according to one of the individuals familiar with the contract.

I can't imagine the Rockets ever letting go of Morey, he's been great IMO and has so much potential. We use the word "potential" with the players all the time but this GM has it. He's flat out to smart to screw things up for this team, at worst we will always have a scrappy hard working bunch under Morey's savvy ways.

Not saying mediocrity is something this team should be satisfied with, but it's hard to imagine the Rockets free falling into obscurity under a GM like Daryl Morey.

Morey's initial contract with the team had expired after last season. He and Rockets owner Leslie Alexander reached agreement after the season on a new deal, which was finalized this week.

Morey declined to comment on his contract status with the team. Alexander could not be reached for comment.
