Dash
What’s shocking is the lack of respect that the Rockets front office has shown Adelman, refusing to acknowledge that he’s kept the team competitive in an almost impossible situation and refusing to talk about the future. Alexander has a history of chasing big name players and coaches and also chasing hot trends. It says here he’ll look to follow the instant success of rookie head coach Tom Thibodeau in Chicago by trying to uncover the next crackerjack assistant ready to move up. Hello, Mike Budenholzer in San Antonio. http://hangtime.blogs.nba.com/2011/04/12/last-tango-with-adelman/ Not the biggest Blinebury fan and its hard for me to even think that the Rockets would disrespect Adelman in such a way. In fact I thought management has always given Rick his due and usually got the players to his liking. Could be a different story behind the cameras though. "refusing to talk about the future" this part I can picture. The Rockets still don't seem set on which course they are heading for future, let alone next season. I'm indifferent about Adelman's situation regardless and Budenholzer was actually at the top of wish list for a future coach.
htown11
Love the quotes from Adelman at the end. Blinebury is a witty guy and a very smart journalist that usually tells it like it is.... he used to be a Chron guy but obviously the NBA took notice of him and snatched him up. I can completely picture Alexander giving Adelman the cold shoulder, that seems to be one of Alexander's drawback as an owner, he gets bored fast. He loves change, he loves being active during the deadline and draft, so seeing a contract run out probably makes him anxious and excited to see what else is available, I guess that's the fun of being an owner lol. Ricks got tons of support from his players, and I think at the end of the day that should speak volumes. I doubt a single guy in that locker room (except for T Will lol) dislikes Adelman, and even T Will I am sure still respects the guy just based on history. You gotta be sure as an owner that you have someone/something better out in the NBA world, because replacing a guy like Adelman IMO is a tough thing to do. You know what you are getting from Rick, and I think as a team the understanding became mutual in the second half of the season, that was clear everyone was on the same page. Ricks right it is tough when you barely had Tmac or Yao to work with, it sounds like a worn out excuse but it's to significant to not bring up, all in all once again Rick has proved why he's an incredible coach. I don't want to see him go because I don't think the Rockets can get a better replacement.

What you posted about Les makes sense, a few years ago Morey wanted to keep Jeff Van Gundy after the 2007 playoffs but Les wanted to move and ended up making a big splash by signing Adelman. Getting rid of Rick would sort of admitting that the last few years were just a big waste of time especially when you consider how Rick's system has always been at the core. This team is designed to play for Rick Adelman and retaining him would give us our best shot at the playoffs next season, I'm not denying that but I'm still skeptical about whether he's the right coach for a rebuilding team. Like Rick I am frustrated about not knowing exactly where this team is heading. You're right about there being no better replacement but if we end up rebuilding, I wouldn't be opposed (not necessarily saying that he should be let go) if the Rockets looked elsewhere. DaFranchise03
Since the beginning i have hated on Adelman but he is still a great coach. Part of me wants to see him stay and see what he can do with a legit center guarding the paint and a shutdown perimeter defender.
Dash
Dick Justice just wrote a piece on Adelman, seems like he thinks the team is leaning moving on. Full article is in the link below. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/justice/7518923.html If Rick Adelman has done such a good job — and there doesn't seem to be much argument about that - why are the Rockets leaning toward changing coaches? Let us count the reasons, or at least attempt to. In a city that has seen a few coaches come and go, this is one of the tougher ones to decipher. At Reliant Stadium, Gary Kubiak keeps his job despite producing one winning record and no playoff appearances in five seasons. But the Rockets are prepared to say goodbye to a coach virtually everyone in the organization acknowledges has done a good job. This difference begins with ownership. Rockets owner Leslie Alexander is less inclined than Bob McNair to stay with the status quo, especially when he believes he might be able to find someone better. However, in constantly looking for someone better, there's a chance he'll end up with someone worse. This the Rockets acknowledge. This they will risk. On some level, there's something admirable about all of this. The Astros and Texans run from change, fear it, argue against it. They tell us good times are just around the corner. Alexander is more demand-ing, more willing to hold peo- ple accountable. He might not be as pleasant to work for as the other two guys, but he has gotten results. In his 18 sea-sons as owner, the Rockets have been to the playoffs 11 times and had just three losing records. This town has never had an owner come close to his level of success. htown11
Dick makes a very good point when comparing owners. Les has always been very active in all things "change" he is by far the owner with the most balls in Houston. If he's willing to move on he better be damn sure it's not just a " I'm bored again I want change because I am the owner" he needs to have a legitimate replacement or a young guy like Morey who clearly was filled with potential when the Rockets replaced CD. If you have a coach like that great but I hope he's making the right judgement and not just playing owner is bored again. Anyway the Astros will have an owner change soon enough but that team is screwed as of now they have no talent in the minors and have problems up and down the current lineups. The Texans I don't get... still don't know why Kubiak is the head coach of that team.
htown11
Love seeing this. Courtney Lee said players are one by one asking Rockets management in exit interviews to keep Rick Adelman. #hounews
Dash
Honestly I think I'm beginning to lean towards keeping Adelman especially if he's having that kind of effect on the players. Class act by the Rocket roster.
Dash
Rick Adelman, Houston Rockets: Adelman and the Rockets could soon agree to an amicable divorce, several league sources said. Adelman and owner Les Alexander don’t exactly see eye-to-eye. The veteran coach also could be attracted to a possible opening on another team that would offer him a better chance to win. The Rockets want their coach to play their young players and embrace their creativity in the free-agent market, which doesn’t sound like a team adamant about winning immediately. Adelman, who turns 65 on June 16, was in the last year of his contract this season. Injuries to Yao Ming(notes) – and Tracy McGrady(notes) in past seasons – prevented him from ever coaching the roster he envisioned he’d have in Houston. If Adelman doesn’t return, the Rockets could pursue Brown. Elston Turner, Adelman’s longtime assistant, also figures to be a candidate for some of the league’s openings. http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=At_SZgfxaDrasPSSpGT.UpK8vLYF?slug=mc-spears_nba_coaching_carousel041511 Looks like we're rebuilding but Mike Brown? That would be awful. I guess the players requesting Adelman to stay won't even be enough.
