La Bomba
Earl Sweatshirt is arguably the best rapper in the ascendant California skate-rap crew Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All, and his online album EARL is one of the group's defining documents. But he's been mysteriously absent since OFWGKTA came to internet prominence last year. The other members lead "Free Earl" chants and audience singalongs to his songs at shows, but they won't say anything about why he's missing. Naturally, rumors have swirled: He's in jail, he's at boot camp, he's dead. But now, Complex magazine believes they've located Earl, whose real name is Thebe Kgositsile, at a center for at-risk American kids in Samoa. This has not been confirmed, however, and is being disputed by other members of OFWGKTA. Complex followed a long and complicated trail of song lyrics, Facebook posts, and emails to find what looks like a picture of Earl at a school called the Coral Reef Academy. According to a kid on Facebook who claims to be Earl's classmate, Earl's mother sent him there because she didn't like his music or his "behavior toward her." The whole story is up at Complex. The magazine clarifies that they don't know whether Earl is actually there currently, and Odd Future's camp hasn't responded to inquiries. And Odd Future leader Tyler, the Creator disputes the story on his Twitter: "Sick As [expletive], But I Just Came On This To Say That Complex Shit Is False Info. Sucks Waking Up To Some Shit Like That." http://pitchfork.com/news/42205-odd-futures-earl-sweatshirt-found/ Tyler said it wasn't true, but I thought I'd post this anyway.
