The White House on Wednesday morning released the president's long form birth certificate (pdf) in an attempt to put "birther" questions to rest.

"The President believed the distraction over his birth certificate wasn't good for the country. It may have been good politics and good T.V., but it was bad for the American people and distracting from the many challenges we face as a country," White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said in a statement.

The president had released his certificate of live birth in 2008, but many "birthers" said the absence of a long form birth certificate prompted questions about Obama's birthplace of Hawaii. In recent weeks potential GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump has brought birther questions into the forefront of the media.

"At a time of great consequence for this country--when we should be debating how we win the future, reduce our deficit, deal with high gas prices, and bring stability to the Middle East, Washington, DC, was once again distracted by a fake issue," Pfeiffer said. "The President's hope is that with this step, we can move on to debating the bigger issues that matter to the American people and the future of the country."

Lol and I just saw Donald on tv get off his helicopter and address the media about this.

He is pumping his chest about how he was the only guy who finally made Obama release the "long" form when legally the "short" form is all Obama needed to show. Good job Donald you really gave us good reality tv, stick to that don't run this country.

Also another thing that makes no sense is Trump has gone on record many times saying things like this country is laughed at around the world because our politics throw jabs at one another on "personal" levels and lose focus on what really needs to be done.

He acknowledges that and he's right, then he does a 180 and literally does what he said the country is laughed about for, the focus switches from the budget situation to whether or not Obama is born here.... hypocritical. Donald's logic is just awful he's a good showman but running for President just because he has the money doesn't make him a realistic candidate.

Hopefully this puts an end to this stupid conspiracy but I doubt most of the conspirators change their minds, probably coming up with some BS like the certificate is fake etc.

Donald trump would be a great president, he gets things done. He wanted proof of obamas certificate, and he got it. Obama said he would end the wars, he gets us in a third war, obama said he would shut down Guantanamo Bay , not happening, obama is lie after lie.

Trump, if I go to war, im in it to win it. He would take over libya. Trump, lower the oil prices or I i get the troops out of there. Hes a ballsy guy and knows how to operate. Tells that cnn had a vote that him and obama were vote to vote for the next election, cnn denied any sort of polling done. Guess whats gonna happen now? Cnn will have a poll, so trump gets a free polling, hes a very smart man.

He's actually a [expletive]ing moron. I know a few people that were classmates in business school at Wharton with him; almost all the Professors thought he was a clown, he tried teaching the classes instead of letting the Professors do it, when in reality he had no idea what he was talking about.

What has Donald Trump ever done that's smart that makes him qualified to become President? Because he manages some hotels, he's a reality TV star, and he owns some golf courses? Lol if you honestly think Donald Trump gives a [expletive] about citizens such as yourself.

LOL, Trump sucks. Candidates typically say things we all want to hear, but Trump sounds like the typical American that has absolutely no idea how to run a country, just one that thinks we can do what we want and get away with it.

The fact is, Trump has gone bankrupt over and over again, he's a businessman that took advantage of the government, and outside of the BC conspiracy that was stomped on today, Trump has absolutely nothing. He's on the same level as Palin, not as stupid and clueless, but with little to no credibility and more deceiving and shady.

I hope he runs for President, and I hope he gets demolished in the polls.

Lol no comment from anyone and already we have someone calling Republicans "ignorant".

This is a whatever thing, not a huge deal because I'm pretty sure people thought he was a US citizen, they just wondered why we never saw any concrete evidence.

You're fussing over nothing, he said "ignorant republicans" not "republicans are ignorant". Just as there are ignorant democrats.

Actually in a recent CNN poll, only 38% of Americans believed that Obama was born in the United States.

Because people had real suspicions. Unlike a lot of past presidents where we knew basically everything about them, a lot of Obama's past was kind of a mystery. I'm glad Trump did what he did because now all that suspicion is over and done with.

As for the republican part, ECN has maintained that he thinks Obama was born in the US..and while people might not like the guys opinions, he knows his stuff when it comes to politics.

Btw, can we has a politics subforum?

Why do we need concrete evidence? Did anyone ask for concrete evidence from Bush? Clinton? Reagan? Kennedy? FDR? Lincoln?

Come on, please, it's ridiculous that you need evidence. Perfect example of racism still alive in this country for those of you who don't believe...

I don't believe that poll at all. I think many many more Americans believed Obama was born in the United States. If there's only 38% of Americans believing he was born here, than how the hell did he win the Presidency? Lol smh that's a ridiculous poll number.

Lol and boom, there's the race card right on queue. It has 0 to do with racism. With other presidents we've never had any mystery as to who they were. We knew absolutely everything about Bush, even what fraternity he was in at Yale. The American people deserve to know who their president is.

People deserve to know I don't disagree with that and obviously Trump was prepared for the truth since he still made himself look like the guy that got Obama to show more than what is legally necessary.

That makes him a rich investigator who likes to spend his time unveiling things about the President while also disrespecting him numerous times, that does not make him "smart" or a viable candidate, but I guess that is enough for the Unicorn guy in here to vote for Trump.

But besides him having a weird name, his middle name being Hussein, and the fact that he's a bit unorthodox looking and the fact that he's half black, why wouldn't we assume he was a citizen? There was no reason to think, wow, before I vote for this guy, I need to know if he's a U.S. citizen. I wish I could see his birth certificate. WTF. There was never any evidence saying he wasn't a U.S. Citizen.

If you don't think this is NOT in anyway racially motivated, you're just being ignorant. Come on.

LOL, wrong. Apparently, you've never been to Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas (among other states) that are filled with people who use their ignorant racial slurs when talking about Obama's citizenship.

Exactly... This has a lot to do with race, unfortunately. I hate to call the race card on something like this, but if there is ever a time, it is now.... Perfect example is...no one questions/questioned Sarah Palin's citizenship even when most had no idea who she was, what she stood for, and her background.

Lol, the ironic part off all of this is that Hillary Clinton is the one who started the whole birther debate. So I guess she's just a dirty racist lady right?

I never said that every single person who was skeptical of him is a racist - hell, I was skeptical of Obama. But after a while, and after he won the Presidency, if nothing surfaces that he wasn't born here, no legit proof that he wasn't, than just drop the damn subject. 2 years into his Presidency and we are still discussing it? Jesus [expletive]ing Christ. If that's not blatantly racially motivated Idk what is man.

"Look, I applaud this release. I think it's a step in the right direction," so-called "birther queen" Orly Taitz told me in one of her many media interviews this morning. "I credit Donald Trump in pushing this issue."

But she still has her suspicions. Specifically, Taitz thinks that the birth certificate should peg Obama's race as "Negro" and not "African."

"In those years ... when they wrote race, they were writing 'Negro' not 'African'," Taitz says. "In those days nobody wrote African as a race, it just wasn't one of the options. It sounds like it would be written today, in the age of political correctness, and not in 1961 when they wrote white or Asian or 'Negro'."

Everything that is against non-white people is racist, but everything against white people isnt racist, amirite?
