The Regime
“Well I’m going to urge the owners — and it’s not very radical but we were talking about it for awhile — to adopt the international rule on basket interference. That is to say, once the ball hits the rim it’s in play. Because I think that it’s too hard to call. I think that we don’t want to stop the game every time to see if it’s the right call, but the camera that looks down on the basket can tell the story if the refs have gotten it right. And it’s just impossible to call to make whether the ball’s touching the rim, on the rim, off the rim or the like. And I think that would make the game faster, better, and less controversial.” http://sportsradiointerviews.com/2011/04/27/david-stern-nba-playoffs-lockout-lakers-heat-grizzlies-spurs-mark-cuban/

JYD
So guys could just take the ball of the rim once it hits it?
Kobe24
^Same as international rules
AboveLegit
Not in favor of it, but on the bright side, JaVale McGee's scoring average will increase tremendously.
Flash
I don't want the NBA to turn into FIBA.
Owner Real Deal Posted April 28, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted April 28, 2011 Never. I don't want Dwight Howard grabbing layups that are rolling on the rim.
Dash
This is pretty much why I dislike Stern as a comissioner. He cares more about creating a faster paced sport and more entertainment then actually improving the product itself. Example: the clear path foul. ?QuestionMark?
So out of everything that is wrong in the NBA, THIS is what he wants to change? There's a reason they put the goaltending rule in....because one guy named Wilt Chamberlain was ruining the game. Imagine how much worse it'll be now in a league with better athletes. Here's an idea....allow hand-checking and get rid of zone defenses. Of course, since that hurts international players and probably international appeal, Stern wouldn't go for it.
Erick Blasco
I like it. It'll reward activity around the basket, and it's one of the most difficult to call violations.
AboveLegit
He cares more about creating a faster paced sport and more entertainment then actually improving the product itself. He did implement the age limit for the draft in order to improve the product, and gave the refs the ability to use instant replays. ChosenOne
Terrible idea. Leave it the way it is, just cuz the international game uses it that doesn't mean it is a good rule.
htown11
Not in favor of this but I do like Stern as a commissioner.
Check my Stats
If he wants to maintain the flow of the game, tell the refs to put their whistles away or stop calling fouls whenever a wing/superstar gets touched with the ball in their hands. I kinda like this though, would make having a rim protector that much more valuable on defense. How does the rule work off the backboard though? Like, can Dwight grab the ball off the glass on a layup like RD suggested? Or only off the rim?
Owner Real Deal Posted April 29, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted April 29, 2011 Like, can Dwight grab the ball off the glass on a layup like RD suggested? Or only off the rim?Nah, I was talking about layups rolling on the rim. If it's off the glass, it would still be considered a goaltend up until it hits the rim. JYD
He did implement the age limit for the draft in order to improve the product, and gave the refs the ability to use instant replays. The age limit is ridiculous. Making those kids go to college for 1 year is absolutely pointless. There was plenty of success stories with guys making the leap from HS to the NBA. No reason for them to have changed it. Kobe, Garnett, LeBron are just a few examples.

Flash
The age limit is a huge plus for the league IMO.
