Report: Reds acquire Rolen, trade Hairston to Yankees

The Cincinnati Reds have traded for Toronto third baseman Scott Rolen, who must still approve the trade before its finalized, Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated is reporting via Twitter.

 

Rolen, a right-hander, has a .320 average with 8 home runs and 43 RBI in 88 games for the Blue Jays so far this season.

 

The Reds have also traded utility player Jerry Hairston Jr. to the New York Yankees, according to nypost.com.

 

Hairston, a right-hander, hit .254 with 8 home runs and 27 RBI in 86 games for the Reds this season.

I really like the Hairston acquisition. He can play all outfield and infield positions, he has speed, and he gives more options for Girardi when it comes to the bench. Now, we have Hinske (power, outfield), Hairston (speed, defensive substituting), Molina (catching), Ransom/Pena (utility infield), and Gardner when he comes back (speed).
