Hard Cap Game

Recommended Posts

Since the owners want a new hard cap for 45 million, I want to see what is the best team $45 million can get you.

Here's the rules:

1. Must select 12 players

2. Cap is 45 million

3. No rounding off salaries. Use the salaries for the 2011 season. Use this for player's salaries http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-player-salaries/

4. Here's the catch: NO ROOKIE CONTRACTS. That means anyone from the 2007 draft til now still on a rookie contract can't be on your roster. This includes 2nd rounders still on a rookie contract.

Here's my roster:

Starters

C: Kendrick Perkins $6,696,720

PF: Carl Landry $3,000,000

SF: LeBron James $14,500,000

SG: Anthony Morrow $4,000,000

PG: Ramon Sessions $3,964,320

Bench:

C: Kwam Brown $1,229,255

PF: Kris Humpries $4,000,000

SF: Shawne Williams $885,120

SG: Tony Allen $3,000,000

PG: JJ Barea $1,815,000

SG: Damien Wilkins $824,151

C: Shelden Williams $915,852

Total Salary: $44,830,418

Hmm. Looks pretty bad. One star and a bunch of role players. This seems what owners want the league to look like.

I was close to finish making my team, but I accidentally closed the window and I can't be bother re-adding the salaries and stuff.

However, like you, I also had LeBron, and I had Udonis Haslem on the bench. Now, if this team of mine was to exist, I am sure LeBron would have been demanding 20 mil because he was not going to get much help. Haslem would have also demanded more than 3.5m (which is what he is making right now).

Although, to be fair, if a hard cap system was put in place, the salaries of rookies/new free agents should decrease and over time, the average salary of the players would decrease as well. In the short term, however, the teams between lottery regulars and championship contenders are going to suffer, because they would not be able to get any quality players and they can't improve vastly via the draft.

I'm pretty sure Marc Gasol is still technically in his rookie contract which expires this year.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't players only allowed to be on rookie scale contracts for three years? If so all 2007 draftees should be eligible for this game. Marc Gasol, however, was drafted in 08 making this year the final year of his rookie contract.

1st round Rookie scale contracts span 5 years

2 guaranteed years

2 team options

1 Qualifying offer

Gasol was drafted in the second round in 2007, most second round draft picks make minimum for 2 years

I wasn't sure what the rule was when it pertains to international players...
