Luis Scola on the block?

Pure speculation on my part but judging from the McHale hire and the trade deadline moves, it appears that the Rockets are looking to rebuild. One of the big reasons McHale won the job was because of his experience as one of the NBA's premiere post players, and the Rockets likely want him to mentor Patrick Patterson, Jordan Hill and Thabeet. In order for Houston to groom Patterson, they need to insert him into the starting lineup and that means either moving Scola to the bench or trading him.

If the Rockets trade Scola, what do you think they can get back? What teams will be interested? etc.

In all honesty the Pacers will show some interest. They've been looking for that kind of a power forward for quite some time. As for what we can give back, I'm really not sure. Picks would be the most likely asset that you guys would be interested in, but another guy is Brandon Rush. He'd be a good project for you and would add some shooting. What would you guys want from Indiana?

Scola is a very good player, but he has two things working against him...

1) He's 30 years old.

2) By my count, there are roughly 15 teams in the league who have a comparable/better PF on their roster, or have young PF's whose teams want to develop.

Therefor, I do not see him having a whole lot of value on the market, even though he is a very good player and often underrated.

I thought Indiana was going to move Granger this summer and rebuild with Collison, George, Hibbert etc. I'm not sure why the Pacers would want Scola when they have nice young 4 in Hansbrough.

Not too interested in Brandon Rush, I know Morey was high on him a couple of years ago but we already have a good group of young wings. Hansbrough is the only piece I could see the Rockets being interested in.

Yeah the Rockets had a HUGE opportunity to trade Scola when he was 1 or 2 years younger (which would mean a higher trade value), but they were too stubborn to admit it was time to rebuild and missed it.

That said I would be okay with a future first round (likely not a lottery pick) and a decent prospect.

I really dont know how much value he could bring, imo a first round pick and a prospect is a bit to much. He is again and has a bad contract. I want him to be traded for a player that can be an impact player in some way right away.

Nah a first round pick and a prospect is about exactly what the Rockets can get for Scola. Of course it won't be a lottery pick or top 10 pick along with some young prospect like a DeMarcus Cousins but getting a pick in the mid teens or early 20s along with a player like Psycho T would be nice. And lets not forget Scola is a borderline allstar. He did average 18 and 8 this season.

I love Scola's game he's got the best work ethic and straight battles anyone who comes in his way. It sucks that he's not young because after that injury as a Rockets fan you knew everyone would get overly skeptical about Scola's future and rightfully so with our luck.

I really wouldn't mind seeing Scola traded only because PPatt showed that he needs the minutes to flourish and while he may never have the post moves Scola brings, he's a better player overall on both ends of the court. I don't know if any player made me more frustrated on defense than Luis, he tries but he finds himself in the worst positions on the court at times, and his defense is just way to suspect. Just the determination he brings sometimes gets through the game on D but for the most part he made multiple mistakes on that end. His offense is spectacular you hardly see any players in the NBA pull of scoops and spins like Scola did all season without traveling. You can't leave him open for a mid-range shot because he will drill it all night and score 3-4 baskets without even noticing it.

I don't know what you can get for a older player who has a heavy salary but it certainly seems like rebuilding is the obvious direction for the Rockets.

I wish we could get a young prospect and a future first round pick out of Scola. That would be great and yea they sure did miss out on being able to trade Scola with higher value being stubborn. What young prospect would you want the Rockets to get?
