Dash
Interesting tweet from Bill Simmons... sportsguy33 Bill SimmonsMessi!!!! I continue to think that he's better at soccer than anyone else is at anything. I realize its difficult to compare athletes that play different sports but does Messi dominate soccer at a higher level than Lebron does basketball, Peyton Manning at football, etc? Dash
I kinda what the [expletive]ed when I read it. Phelps? Djokovic? Phelps maybe, Djokovic? Never watched tennis so I can't say. From all the major sports (basketball, football, baseball, soccer, hockey) I'd say he's the best. This coming from an Arsenal fan who absolutely hates Barcelona and Messi's guts. SRV
I wouldn't say it....its really heard to judge a soccer player on talent. There are so many players, so many leagues, and so many positions. Messi is good, but there are guys like Ronaldo, Villa, Rooney and many more that can score and all that. There are also a bunch of great defenders and midfielders who don't get credit because they don't get chances to score. It really all depends on what the player is asked to do. He is really good, but its hard to judge a soccer players talent compared to other soccer players, they are all good. Messi and Ronaldo are the only players on a different level than everyone else when it comes to offensive skill set in soccer. Ronaldo is probably more powerful and faster but Messi is really quick too and craftier.

trutrojan8
I think based on ATHLETICISM, not so much who's the best at his sport (because let's face it, I'd be surprised if Woods could break 5 seconds in a 40 yd dash), I'd say it's someone like Dwight Freeney, who ran a 4.4 40 yd dash, at 270 odd pounds of all muscle. EDIT: Plus, along with that speed Freeney can bench 225 pounds 28 times, and has a 37 inch vert. While Messi might be considered (i dont watch soccer) the best soccer player, it's tough to find anyone with as impressive measurable stats than Freeney. Flash
Joke of a post, running doesn't take talent. It doesn't take natural physical talent to dominate an entire sport and shatter records while becoming the fastest man ever? Ok.

Make It Naaaashty
LBJ is easily the best athlete imo. Haven't seen an animal as strong and fast as he is. Edited May 30, 2011 by Prodigy
Lkr
LeBron James also deserves serious consideration in this.a guy that's been questioned as the best in his sport and you want to say he's the best at his sport compared to everyone else in their respective sports? that is quite a stretch. I'd take Brady and Manning as being better in football than he is at basketball

Since you don't watch soccer, you don't know the impact that Messi has so you just can't state something like that.

I know that people are still debating whether he is the clear cut best in his sport right now. We're talking about right now though..niether Federer or Tiger are at the levels they once were. Not the clear cut best? The only ones still arguing that are Madrid/Ronaldo fans. I think the whole world knows who the best player in the world is. This coming from a Madrid fan... I'm not saying that what you're saying is wrong, but the fact that you think the statement presented in the title is wtf worthy is incorrect. The guy is doing and achieving remarkable things right now, and isn't planning on stopping anytime soon.
