htown11
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/mm233/lebronze23/038_kevin_mchale--300x300.jpg Roughly a week after Kevin McHale agreed to become the Rockets head coach, the Rockets will introduce Kevin McHale as their next head coach. They have not announced the schedule, but a press conference is planned for Friday morning. He likely will be the only coach introduced. Daryl Morey and McHale have been working to land the right right-hand man. It might have been nice to have the lead assistant in place, allowing a clearer picture of how things will work under McHale. The Rockets, however, do not expect a decision that quickly. Michael Malone not only much consider whether to re-join Mike Brown on the Lakers staff, but he could be a good candidate in Detroit. Dave Joerger could work the Rockets’ interest into the same gig with the Grizzlies. Joeger has indicated he would interview with McHale and Morey, but that’s a long way from a decision. Either way, McHale will likely provide a much clearer picture of why Morey and Leslie Alexander chose him than first impressions, based on his career so far, could. He should not need to be propped up by the addition of an assistant coach to look good as the Rockets choice of head coach. Coaches almost always win their press conference. McHale will. And if the press conference goes well enough, they can do it again when they make their next hire, even sitting him symbolically to McHale’s right. http://blog.chron.com/nba/2011/05/rockets-still-havent-scheduled-mchale-press-conference/
htown11
http://nyc.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d0/d0/dX/dV/d6/dT/XV6T_3.MP3 Audio for the presser today. Kevin is a very enthusiastic guy, can talk for hours as we all know from watching him on TV, so no doubt he will be a fun coach for the players. He's already talked to a lot of the players by phone and as much as they loved Adelman I think they will find the same in McHale. I know we all just hope it translates into wins.

Dash
Great press conference, some of the questions were pretty dumb but McHale made good answers and I love the confidence that is radiating off him. The fact that he's a player's coach was emphasized a lot, love to hear it from Les and Morey. http://nyc.podcast.play.it/media/d0/d0/d0/dX/dV/d6/dT/XV6T_3.MP3 Audio for the presser today. I think you are totally missing the battle strategy we have going into the season. http://wallpapers.free-review.net/wallpapers/24/tank_challenger.jpg
htown11
I honestly don't think the strategy is clear at all as of now. The Rockets still have to make multiple moves, sure this is one step closer to figuring things out but it's still not 100% clear that rebuilding is the word this team is running on. It's too early imo, but things will fall into shape eventually. I like Kevin he's a likeable guy no doubt but he still wasn't my first choice and I am not sold on anything as of yet from the Rockets. I still love that we have an aggressive owner who clearly loves to wheel and deal, and that we have a smart GM that's able to look for various options because he's given that luxury by the owner. So I am optimistic an identity will eventually be found and we will be moving in the right direction but as of now it's a waiting game that's gotten very monotonous. Dash
Its been pretty clear that we are likely heading into a rebuilding stage but you're right, we are still not committed 100% to it just yet. Scola needs to be moved before we can even think about rebuilding and Yao's health and rehab is going to have a lot to do with which direction the Rockets will ultimately go. McHale will make a good coach, he wasn't my first choice at the beginning either but at the end I was rooting for him. He's got great charisma, an intelligent guy and he makes players believe in themselves. He might not be that great with x's and o's but surround him with offensive and defensive specialists, which I think the Rockets are trying to do right now, and we're set. Who cares who makes the defensive sets and is calling the shots on offense? If the team is producing then I don't see anything to be upset about. Love this new method the Rockets are trying out, they got their motivator in McHale at the helm, inserting an intelligent offensive coach in the staff who successfully ran Adelman's offense with the Vipers (Finch), and now trying to get 1-2 assistant to run the defense. Its brilliant.

Dash
Nothing we didn't already know but at the season ticket event McHale confirmed that he will be taking on a offensive and defensive coordinator. As I posted above, I really love this idea and I have to hand it to management for thinking outside the box.
htown11
^ Agreed that does make me feel better, because I don't think McHale handling this himself is possible. I like that the coaching staff will be sharing the wealth and have specialists for certain situations that makes the most sense.
