Jonny Flynn "Almost Certainly Will be Traded this Month"

Recommended Posts

Jonny Flynn "almost certainly will be traded this month," according to the Star-Tribune.

The Wolves don't have room for Ricky Rubio, Luke Ridnour and Flynn. They appear to have soured on Flynn anyway, who struggled badly to come back from hip surgery last season. Considering Flynn is only 22 and showed significant upside as a rookie, savvy teams would be wise to buy low.

There are quite a few teams that will be interested, but at the same time, he just isn't a point guard. He's a shooting guard in a very small body, but as a backup to a team like Washington for John Wall might be a very solid pickup. What teams do you guys see interested, and what would they have to give up.

Bad move. It would be smarter it they could keep because who knows how much Rubio is going to be able to contribute right away to the team, if anything trade him before the deadline if Rubio pans out. Getting rid of him this early would be a bad move.

Update

Bill Ingram of Hoopsworld is suggesting that Jonny Flynn would be a fit with the Raptors.

Ingram isn't reporting here, just speculating. Flynn is from the area and the Raptors seem to have soured on Jose Calderon. However, Jerryd Bayless is far more talented than Flynn and the Raptors may not want to stunt him. A deal is not imminent.

Flynn would be a nice fit behind Bayless. Calderon will be dealt before the beginning of the season from what I've been hearing, and bringing in Flynn would help fill that void along with Bayless. Maybe a change of scenery and allowing him to just score the ball would resurrect his career.

I think that's why they signed Luke Ridnour.

Flynn was always drafted as a back up plan, with Rubio being the long term project as their starting PG. Never was a fan of Flynn to be honest, he just doesn't have the physical tools to be a successful starting point guard in the NBA. He could be a useful bench player for some team, but I don't see him as a long term starter.

Update

Jonny Flynn is expected to be pursued by the Suns with Ricky Rubio coming to play for the Wolves next season.

Flynn is on the trading block and several teams will be interested. The Suns had him ranked very high in the 2009 draft, and are expected to make a big run at him, although he'd split time with Aaron Brooks while backing up Steve Nash in Phoenix.

Very interesting to see the Suns getting involved. Brooks will be the backup, so where does that leave Flynn? Would they give him some time at shooting guard, even though his height would be a mismatch for opposing teams? I'm not sure why they'd go after Flynn when they already have a starter in the backup role. What do you guys think they'd have to give up though?
