Who should the Wolves select with the #2 pick?

Because it seems like Minnesota is leaning toward keeping the pick.

 

Minnesota assistant general manager Tony Ronzone says the Timberwolves are leaning toward keeping the second overall pick in this month’s NBA draft.

 

Ronzone spoke Friday after working out several fringe free agents at Target Center. With Ricky Rubio(notes)signing a contract earlier this week to come to Minnesota next season, Ronzone was asked if the Wolves were going to hold onto the No. 2 pick.

 

Ronzone said “Right now we’re keeping two.”

Do they take the consensus #2 prospect, Derrick Williams even though they already have Beasley? Do they take a post-up center in Enes Kanter? Jonas Valanciunas could go here but he will likely be another Ricky Rubio situation, does Minnesota really want to go through that again?

You know what, I'm going to go with a very interesting selection here. I say that they go ahead and take Enes Kanter. Like everyone has been saying, they have Michael Beasley who is a great small forward, and wouldn't do well getting taken out of the starting role. Also, Kanter would add a post presence (which Love really isn't), and another good rebounder to help Love with the glass. Can't fault this pick even though it's not the sexiest pick.

Assuming the Cavs take Irving, you go with Derrick Williams. Kanter has the potential to be a very solid starting center, but Derrick Williams has more star potential and is considered to be very prepared for the NBA. I look at this as a two-player draft, and if you have a chance to get one of them, you can't pass up the opportunity to nab one. Worry about clearing up the logjam at forward later.

Well its the timberwolves here so dont expect it to be a good pick no matter what. I have lost all faith in the teams ability to draft.

Not really sure what's going on with the Wolves......I thought they wanted to get some veteran help, yet here they are looking at drafting another 19/20 year old.

 

They should trade the pick, otherwise they will just keep on losing and their young players will become accustom to it, which is never a good thing.

With Ricky Rubio(notes) finally agreeing to play for Minnesota next season, a major piece to the puzzle has been added to the Timberwolves' roster, allowing them to focus all their attention on this pick.

The team has reportedly narrowed down their choices to Williams and Enes Kanter at the moment, but it has also been calling around the league recently to see what this pick might yield via trade, asking particularly for a "veteran big man." It's likely that Williams will be the one taken since he is the consensus second-best talent in this draft, according to NBA decision makers. If Minnesota keeps the pick and indeed selects Williams, sources say the Timberwolves will look to move Michael Beasley(notes) as they try to improve the "culture of the team."
