Mentch
Anybody remember Game 4 of the WC First Round when the Mavs were on the brink of a 3-1 series lead in the first round in Portland and had a 23 point lead in the 3rd quarter? Remember how they collapsed and lost, while Portland tied the series at 2 games apiece, and everyone thought the Mavs were done? Seems like old news now That's cuz the Mavs recovered to win their next 7 playoff games and are now in the NBA Finals. This isn't the first time it's happened though In 1994, the Rockets led over the Spurs by 20 points with only 10 minutes left in Game 2 of the WC Semifinals, but the Spurs came back to win the game in overtime. However, the Rockets were able to recover and went on to win the NBA Finals In 2002, the Nets led the Celtics by 21 at the start of the fourth quarter, but the Celtics came back to win 94-90. Like the Mavs and the Rockets, however, the Nets recovered to win the series and advance to the NBA Finals What is it with teams that undergo collapses in pivotal games, but then proceed to put it all behind them? People were talking about how Rick Carlisle was under heat and might get fired if they lost the first round series, but now they think he's a great coach. Is there something that happens after a huge loss that motivates the players to win? I don't get it. Everyone was picking Portland to win the series after they evened it up, and then the Mavs just caught fire
