New roster?

Next year we lose Magloire, Howard, Dampier, Chalmers and Bibby to FA...and hopefully Big Z retires and Jones and House have a player option. With this being said, knowing how this team function, who do you think we go after in FA? I have no idea how much money we can spend, but I don't doubt Riley's ability to sign guys.

All depends on the new CBA. Assuming they have the same flexibility as the old CBA allowed, I'd resign Chalmers and Jones, ask Bibby to return for the minimum, sign Samuel Dalembert with the MLE, call up Dexter Pittman from the D-League, and fill in the blanks with minimum contracts...

Chalmers/Bibby

Wade/Jones

LeBron/Miller

Bosh/Haslem

Dalembert/Anthony/Pittman

Also, if Nash or Billups get bought out near the trade deadline, I'd jump on the opportunity to bring them in for the minimum.

I think we need a big man for sure. Haslem and Anthony just get man handled by a team with two 7 footers. We also need a veteran PG. These young guys just defer to Wade and Lebron too much when its their responsibility to set up the offense.

They don't NEED anything. LBJ just needs to sac up and become the player he should be.

I disagree.. They need a pg who can make smart decisions with the basketball, and hit the 3 consistently, I would love to see nash on the team personally. And they also need a defensive anchor in the middle who can rebound which they don't have, dalembert would be perfect for that.

Edit: completely agree with the lebron part though!

Chalmers, Bibby and Arroyo weren't PG's. They were just there to fill a role, we need an actual PG. A guy like Barea who will dictate the pace, get into the lane and create options, and a guy who can knock down an open shot. I know we can't get Barea, but thats what a PG is supposed to do. All our PG's did was walk to the half court line and pass to Wade or Lebron and then they ran to the corner and stood there.

Why would you guys want a PG that handles the ball? Wade and LeBron aren't going to start playing off the ball. That was one of the bigger problems to begin with...both having similar styles, both needing the ball to be effective.

If you take the ball out of BOTH of their hands, wanting to rely on someone like Nash (who runs his own system), you're going to be severely disappointed again.

Does sam dalembert have a decent post game? Like is he a back to the basket type of player? Heat need a player like that..

Dalembert is strictly defense. He's not a guy you try and post up, and he would probably give Miami about 4-5 PPG.

LeBron and Wade simply take turns scoring... it reminds me of Melo and AI taking turns scoring ball in Denver.

But obviously LeBron and Wade have more chemistry and are more willing to give up their turn to the each other... in Denver, it was more awkward smiles between AI and Melo.

I think it could still work... aside of the Big 3, Chalmers and Haslem, their role players are way past their primes or complete stiff like Joel Anthony (although he's a pretty good defender). Give them a younger supporting cast next year, I believe they need:

- a better starting PG than Chalmers, who played pretty well for his standard, but should be a backup nevertheless... they don't need a superstar PG type like Chris Paul... a pass first, defensive-minded PG would work wonders for them... they should target Kyle Lowry. (Sorry Ty Lawson is off-limits :) )

- a better frontcourt, who play defense but can still catch LeBron and Wade's passes and score. I have a huge feeling they WILL lobby hard for Kenyon Martin, who seems like a perfect fit (who will be considering Dallas - his hometown - as well). Imo, KMart will go to the team that lobbies him the hardest... Heat need him much more than Mavs. They should also try to target Kings' Jason Thompson, Chuck Hayes, Darrell Arthur, Ersan Ilyasova, Brandon Bass, Earl Clark.

- a reliable scorer off the bench like, well... Jason Terry. If Pat Riley takes over, or if Spo stays and decides to take risks, they should take a chance on J.R. Smith.

- a better defensive wing, they should target Arron Afflalo... who may be a hard catch due to lots of interests from other teams.

If I had to bet on who'll be Heat's new player next season, out of all players in league, it's Kenyon Martin (KMart loves to party = South Beach). It seems perfect sense.

Perfect sense? K-Mart is 33 with multiple micro-fracture surgeries and 70+ games played only once in the last 6 seasons. He's also in no way, shape or form a center, and the Heat already have arguably the best PF rotation in the league (Bosh/Haslem/James).

The Heat aren't that far off and internal improvements can take the team a long way. LeBron getting attacked by Shawn Marion probably cost the Heat 8-10 points in some games, while push-offs on his post moves cost him a few turnovers. Plus LeBron was so passive. Improved play on his end makes up for a lot.

The Heat need a point guard who can handle, shoot, and defend. Chalmers was okay, but he had problems bringing the ball up against Chicago and made defensive mistakes, but he should be better next season, and should probably start. The Heat can live without Bibby and can replace him with another league minimum guy/shooter.

The Heat also need a guy who can create his own shot off the bench. Mike Miller hasn't had a good season in three years.

Add in a center with a little more offensive skill to platoon with Anthony (I'm strongly against Dalembert...aside from rebounding, I don't think there's anything he adds against a good team that Anthony doesn't provide (Dalembert's a poor finisher, and while he has more moves than Anthony, he's not scoring efficiently in the playoffs).

The Heat can easily be even better if the talent in place improves, like, say, LeBron and Bosh in the post.

I'd be willing to take a chance on one of Yao or Oden to be honest. The Heat's defense with a healthy Oden in the middle...omg. Those are both HUGE ifs though. I would honestly put the full court press on Nene.

Steve Nash would be crazy too because he can hit shots for us on a consistent basis unlike Bibby and sometimes Mario.

Dalembert offers size and rebounding, the two areas Anthony is completely awful in. Pittman I think can be a nice project as he is a very good finisher and has some good post moves, but he's nothing more than a raw project. All those times Miami was getting crushed on the boards against Dallas by Chandler (which is what caused all those loose ball fouls in the 4th quarter in the games at Dallas) would be greatly reduced with Dalembert in the middle.

I would love Oden, but he sure as hell won't take the minimum. I also don't think his luck is that bad to get injured again.

Joel Anthony just angers me in every way. Sure he blocks shots, but he can't catch a pass, he can't distinguish his team from the other team when he passes the ball, he can't score an and 1 to save his life and so on. He has one function, block. He has a string of great games, but he was nowhere to be found in the Finals. We simply need a center who can get physical and rebound and a guy who can give us some points on offense. Between having a shitty PG and a shitty center, the other teams defense could relax and focus on covering Wade, Lebron and Bosh.

I don't understand the fascination with Oden...he's played 82 games in 4 seasons, and only 21 in the last 2. He's had very, very serious surgeries, and was born with ailments that make him more succeptible to injury (I forget exactly what they were and too lazy to look them up). The Heat are not the kind of team that should spend their entire MLE on such a high-risk prospect. They should be spending their money on proven, durable talent. If they spend it on Oden and he goes down with injury, then they will be in the same boat they were this year, or even worse. And with Wade nearing 30 and this trio in their 2nd season together, they don't want to go another season ringless.
