The Regime
So on the Scott Van Pelt Show this morning they brought up a couple rankings of the current best players in the NBA. They were absurd to say the least, and I got a pretty good kick out of them. One of the rankings was from Skip Bayless and the other from from another analyst, whose name I can't remember. So here's Bayless' list: 1) Dwayne Wade2) Dirk Nowitzki3) Kobe Bryant4) Kevin Durant5) Carmelo Anthony What I do remember from the other ranking is that LeBron and Kobe didn't even crack his top 5, Dirk was #1, Rose was #3 and Chris Paul, Zach Randolph, and Dwight Howard were somewhere on the list. What amazes me is the hit that LeBrons popularity has taken since the finals, when in fact he was arguably regarded as the best player in the league for a good part of the season. And I don't even want to start with Kobe, a healthy Kobe is still a top 3 player in the league and that's not even debatable imo. Kobe's athleticism has taken a hit as a result of age, but he's still the most fundamentally sound, clutch, talented offensive player in the league and he'll certainly prove that next season. Also the fact that Dwight didn't make Bayless' list is just mind boggling. I don't think there is any other player in the league who requires so much attention and forces teams to alter the way they defend the Magic. And lastly I think it's a stretch to have Melo in the top 5. He's a phenomenal offensive player, probably the second most fluent scorer behind Durant, but he's far too one dimensional for my liking. If he would exert himself more on the defensive end, then I might consider him in the top 5. For the time being he's probably top 10. AboveLegit
If we're talking about overall talent, I'd take 1. LBJ2. Wade3. Kobe4. Dwight5. Chris Paul I'm not basing it off this past season, it's just who I believe are the top players in this league.

I actually think I agree with that list completely, except I'm tempted to move Dwight over Kobe. 23/14 on 60%$ shooting along with being the most dominant defensive player in the league is very hard to turn down. I'd still probably put Kobe over him, but that probably has more to do with what he was doing 2-3 seasons ago as opposed to what player he is today...next season will give a clearer picture. The only reason why I've kept Kobe in the top 3 is due to the fact that he has the most polished game in the league right now.
Owner Real Deal Posted June 16, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted June 16, 2011 I actually wrote about what Jalen Rose said on the SVP show (on my FB). He stated that Dirk was the best player in the NBA today. His reason? It's because he's the Finals MVP, and the champ. Now, I'm sorry, but who was the best player in the league in 2004? Chauncey Billups? Doesn't make sense.
Check my Stats
I realize LBJ had an extremely mediocre finals, but he is still a top 3 player for sure, probably the best. Kobe is borderline top 5, it's easy to say 'when he is 100%', but will he ever be 100% again? I agree with Wade being better (or maybe more effective is a better word) now, and Dwight probably too. Durant and Melo are still criminally overrated and guys like Deron and CP3 are still criminally underrated.
