Flash Posted June 20, 2011 Report Share Posted June 20, 2011 We have the first pick in round 2 which is pretty good in this draft because there's a lot of depth in the later picks. The 2 names I've heard recently are Nolan Smith and Reggie Jackson from BC. If Jackson falls to 31 you absolutely take him. He'd be able to play right off the bat and give us good minutes. Smith seems like a more steady Chalmers to be honest. People will see Rio's series vs. Dallas and think he's great, but he's got a long way to go. AboveLegit Posted June 20, 2011 Report Share Posted June 20, 2011 I'd take Chalmers over Smith to be honest, while Nolan is probably the better offensive player (because he understands how to control the game with the ball in his hands), Mario is a much better defender. If Shelvin Mack falls to Miami, I would highly suggest taking him. He's a true leader and has championship experience (two straight NCAA Finals appearances). He's a great shooter, controls the pace of the game much like Nolan, and plays smart. He's not a pure PG by any means, but you don't really need one with Bron and Wade having the ball in their hands. He can spot up, and while he isn't a great athlete, he's very strong for a player his size so he can take it to the rack. I've seen a lot of Reggie Jackson, and I wouldn't take him if I'm Pat Riley. He just doesn't fit your team, he's not a great spot up shooter, he needs the ball to be effective, and is a below average defender (can't count the number of times he got burned by Vasquez or even Stoglin when BC played UMD). If not a PG, go for a big man like Jordan Williams. He's not a great back to the basket player, but he has room to improve. He will immediately step into the rotation and make a difference on the boards, so that's definitely something to look out for. Best part about him is that he has always played in a rather uptempo offense, and has thrived under Gary Williams' system. I'd absolutely take that over what we had this year with Bibby/Rio/Arroyo/House. Especially with the growth we've seen from Chalmers. I'm almost positive, based on reports, that Chicago will take Nolan Smith with one of their two picks in the first round. Then I can also see Mack going to New Jersey with their first round pick. Miami should take a look at Jordan Williams, he fits one of your needs, and could develop into a serviceable big man off the bench (can't see him being a starter due to his size).
