Get Bruce Bowen

if he went to philly that would be a waste of both(the franchise and bowen's) of their times. bowen would benefit from a reduced role on a team that has a good coach, some veterans, and some young upcoming stars. he has declined but can still play D, but it would just be wasted on a team like philly that plays at such a high tempo that defensive stops don't really equate to the outcome of the game. im not a big fan of george karl and i feel that billups has bailed him out and made him look like a better coach then he is,but i think the nuggets and bowen would be a good fit. he wouldn't have to do much besides come off the bench and provide some defense and some potential scoring(not much) and he would be on a contender. or maybe if mcgrady and yao could ever stay healthy he could be a healthy fit as a backup in houston. philly isn't a championship contender and they won't be one if they add bowen.

Playing with an emphasis on the fast break doesn't trivialize the importance of defense. Even with as much as we play in transition, the majority of the game is still in a half-court setting.

bowen is old, and won't be able to lock someone down on every defensive possession. him playing on the sixers and stopping someone from scoring maybe three times, won't be much of a deciding factor in if the sixers win or lose the game because there will be many more possessions where defense inst the main emphasis. a team like the celtics that takes their defensive stops and uses them to effect the outcome of the game would be a more ideal situation for bowen.

just look at how great of a defender michael peitrus is. sure lebron still went off in the playoffs, but michael played him the best out of most of the players i've ever seen play defense on lebron, and pietrus did the same with kobe. in golden state im pretty sure no one besides maybe warriors fans thought pietrus was a good defender because all of his defensive plays were basically nullified in that fast disruptive tempo in golden state, just like how bowen would be in philly. it also doesn't help that the sixers are limited when it comes to jumpshooters and rely mostly on athleticism, youth and speed to get there's, so there's another negative for bruce bowen.

He would retire before even considering Philly.

How do you know?

He might just want some cash or even to sign with a team that he has a chance to be an assistant on.

People dont think this out.

He already has a championship.

No defender at any age can lock anyone down on every defensive possession.

I don't understand what you're trying to argue here. We put—and still do, I hope—as much emphasis on defense as every team does. Stops are not exclusive to only the elite defenses.

The problem is that you're categorizing us with a team like Golden State, where not a modicum of defense is played and the only strategy is to outscore the opposing team. We were ranked 11th in the league on defense. So while the fast break is a primary source of offense for us, it doesn't preclude defense. The stress on transition is the only similarity we have with a team like the Warriors.
