Laptop Battery Problem

Figured I better post this before the damn thing stops working completely, and I can no longer access OTR easily lol.

Picture of problem below...Here is the details of the issue:

As you can see, my computer is plugged into the outlet properly as it has always been, but it's "not charging"...Why is this? Do I have a faulty battery? Do I need a new one?

What is going on here?

I assume that once that 49% (which has been going down slowly over the past month or so, this isn't a new problem...it was at 90% about 3-4 weeks ago...) I will be [expletive]ed and the computer will no longer turn on. I'm not sure what my next step is. The laptop is still in great shape and is only 18 months old, so I don't really want to run out and get a new laptop.

Any ideas?

Well having your laptop always plugged in is not a good thing for you battery, you are suppose to unplug it when its fully charged so that might be the reason why your battery has started to die. If I were you i would go back to the place where you bought it and check up on warranty, i believe most laptops have a two year warranty. If that doesn't work i think you are going to have to buy a new battery.

First off, you'll never have a problem where your computer will no longer turn on. As long as you have your charger you can plug you computer into the wall and take out the battery and the laptop will work just fine. That being said I think your problem has to do with what ChosenOne said, once devices such as cell phones or laptops are at full charge it is best to unplug them and let them come close to dieing before recharging. They should not be plugged in at all times it kills the battery. If I were you I'd let the laptop die. Then plug in and my charger and let it full charge before using it again. If at the very least you will see how much battery time you have on your charger.

It's plugged in, yet it says it is not charging...That's kind of the point of my original post. I have it charging, yet the battery continues to slowly go down in it's percentage despite being plugged in....

Forgot to also mention....

If I unplug the charger, and try to power up the laptop, it will not turn on. It's as if I'm not even pressing the button. The second I put the charger back in, it powers right up and runs great...

So I'm thinking once that 45% of battery power dies, I'm [expletive]ed......

Yeah or you will never be able to unplug for use, I think if it dies off you will only be able to use it if its plugged in. Did you check on the warrany?

Well it isn't charging, so I don't see why it would work once the percentage goes to 0% lol.

I'm almost positive the warranty was only for a year. I had to replace the CD burner in March of 09 and I think I remember the guy telling me it was 1 year warranty on the laptop.

I'd be shocked if it was a 2 year warranty tbh.

I've had a similar problem. In the last 5-6 months, the battery has not charged when plugged in except on very rare (like once a month occurances) where it will actually charge. The only time it will charge on thos occasions is when the computer is turned off and I plug the computer into an outlet; the charging light will come on, and I let it go for about an hour and then turn the computer on.

  • 3 weeks later...

For those of you who do care, it did end up being the battery. Cost exactly 100 bucks, Best Buy shipped it to my house and I got it today. Back up and running!
