Owner Real Deal Posted August 4, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted August 4, 2011 NBA Players Association executive director Billy Hunter said Wednesday that if he "had to bet on it," he would wager that the entire 2011-12 season would be wiped out by the lockout. "We're $800 million apart per year," Hunter told about 200 people during a seminar at a conference in Baltimore of the National Bar Association, an organization of predominantly African-American lawyers and judges. The union chief said NBA commissioner David Stern was being limited in negotiations by hard-line owners. "The circumstances have changed among his constituency," said Hunter, the executive director since 1996. "In the last six or seven years, there is a new group of owners to come in who paid a premium for their franchises, and what they're doing is kind of holding his feet to the fire."http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/nba/ba-sp-nba-bar-association-0704-20110803,0,3282438.story The NBA sucks. The Regime
I don't know how most of us are going to be able to go through an entire year without basketball if that is the case. One year off, means a year older for the Lakers, that's some bullshit.

Jenneral
I'd probably stop following professional basketball altogether it that was the case. In the past few years I've started watching more and more college hoops and find it to actually be more appealing anyway. This would really be crushing to the NBA's popularity. Check my Stats
It sucks to hear this but with how far apart they are (worse than the NHL was by the sounds of things) it is definitely possible. But at the same time, it is way, way too early to even be thinking of the entire season being locked out in my opinion. But as long as the players are determined not to have a hard cap, yeah there won't be basketball. I'd be the season is cancelled, and honestly I am okay with that since the Raps are going to benefit from this (JV gets another year under his belt since he wasn't coming over) and we were going nowhere fast, and even with a lockout surely we will be picking high again next draft. Hopefully an agreement can be reached that allows all 30 teams to have at least the opportunity to compete, that's all we can really ask for. Built Ford Tough
Not surprising. I've been saying it for a while now. The NBA and NBAPA are much, much further apart than the NHL and NHLPA were back when they lost an entire season to a lockout and pretty much everybody figured that the NHL would have a lockout that, at the very least, would wipe out half the season. The best case scenario is a half season, but I don't even expect that. The lockout is going to go on for as long as the players allow it if you ask me because I don't see the owners budging on some of their more critical demands. The end of the lockout will likely come when the players give in to the owners demands, at least in my opinion.

The players will budge before the owners, simply because it'll be the players running out of money first. Sure, guys like Bryant and Deron can go overseas and play, make money, etc...but they aren't raking in $20 million a season, and they're only getting older. Plus, that's only two guys. The owners aren't going to make money during a lockout, but they are also sitting on their cash because they aren't obligated to pay their players. Players aren't getting shit out of anything they do. If they consider decertification, their contracts will be voided, which is going to suck for everyone (owners, players AND fans). Of course, you already know all of that, lol. I'm really sick of reading this garbage, though. It's just the same thing, over and over again, and I doubt I'll see "breaking news" flashing across my TV screen for at least 6-7 months, if not more. Cleveland's Finest
Players and Owners will still be millionaires...yet thousands of people who worked for the NBA teams now won't have jobs...and who's left with no gain? The fans. I feel no sympathy for any player or owner, and I really don't need information on the lockout, hint hint ESPN. We don't care about the arguments, because all we care about is the sport. Only upside....one more year that Queen James ain't champ.
