fastbreak435
Want to do evaluations for my players this season. I coach JV boys. Any suggestions on how to make the evaluations informative?
Owner Real Deal Posted August 5, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted August 5, 2011 Just create a 1-5 scale, and grade each of them on certain aspects of the game. Use categories and subcategories. It's really the best way to go about it. Teamwork---Passing (Rating - Comment)---Screens---Help Defense Dribbling---Perimeter Ball-Handling---Post Ball-Handling Shooting---Shot Mechanics---Efficiency---Shot Selection Physical Attributes---Quickness---Speed---Agility---Strength---Stamina Mental Attributes---Attitude---Offensive Awareness---Defensive Awareness---Hustle/Effort Overall Play---Offense---Defense---Fundamentals This is similar to what I was doing with middle school kids. Your 1-5 scale would be something like... 1 - Poor performance, needs extensive work2 - Below average performance3 - Average performance4 - Above average performance5 - Excellent performance, player is highly skilled in this area I also used an Excel spreadsheet, just so it would be easier to go back and edit comments and ratings. Then, you can do evaluations each week, and show progression in the spreadsheet, and average each evaluation rating for that player at the end of each month. Of course, this is probably a lot of work for JV players, so I'm not sure how far you'd want to dive into this. I didn't give out the evaluations as much, didn't average them...but those are ideas I'd probably use if I were coaching HS ball (probably varsity, but again, it's up to you).
