The NCAA. And if you read the whole story on Yahoo, you'd realize it goes way beyond simply players receiving benefits.

Thanks for stating the obvious. Besides the NCAA and their terrible and pathetic rules, I think most people could give two shits about players getting benefits. Also, I'm not just talking about this case because this case far exceeds just "normal" benefits. In general, I think players should be allowed to receive money and gifts.

So, basically you are saying that you randomly blurted out a statement that, as you admit, doesn't pertain to this specific case, which is what this topic's about? Amazing.

And it's about keeping the integrity of the college game and it's "purity." I don't necessarily agree with it, but I can definitely understand why they care and make those rules and regulation. The average fan doesn't give two shits, but the people running the business do, and that's what matters.

So you think a player should go to the school that can offer the nicest car? That pretty much takes out any school not named USC, Florida, LSU, or Texas

So, the top 25 QB recruits in the country are going to go to the same few schools? No, there's a lot more than that, which goes into the decision players make. Playing time, location, ect. are major factors.

An 18 year old could give a shit about which coach he's playing under if with at one school he's riding a bike and the other he's cruising in an Escalade

The "purity of the game" my ass. These schools makes millions of dollars off of these kids and young adults, and these kids aren't allowed to get shit in return, besides the select group of players that get full scholarships.

These players deserve to be compensated.

I agree they deserve to be compensated to a degree, just like when you take any other job on a college campus (however, do not forget many of these kids are getting scholariships, whether partial or full-ride, which adds up to a TON of money). Though, where does the line get drawn in what they can accept and be "compensated" with, and who they can receive these benefits from? It can definitely snowball to the point where you get the scanarios you see listed in the article...for example, if a mid-level player who knows he won't make it to the NFL gets an offer for 25K to follow through on a "hit" against an opposing team's star player, then the game is corrupt and loses its purity.

That's why I said I don't necessarily agree with it, or disagree with it. Outlawing it totally keeps the NCAA from liability, and is the "safe" route. It's a business like anything else. And even though it may be unfair to a degree, these athletes have the opportunity to have their tuition paid for, a chance to do what they love on a big stage, and a chance to prove themselves to NFL scouts which can net them millions of dollars. So, I don't feel too bad for either side. If they don't like, their are other pro and amateur leagues they can take their talents to.

I agree with you for the most part.

It's just a giant mess. I understand why the aren't compensated, but I think if donors and former alumni want to give money to some players to satisfy them, then that should not be too big of a problem.

I think a major problem that schools would run into if THEY were to compensate the players, is that women athletes would need to be compensated equally, which they sure as hell don't deserve.

This essentially kills an already diminishing Miami program. Something has to be done about this issue, many scandals have come up within the past year, the NCAA really needs to do something drastic to put an end to this. If all of these allegations are true, I believe the punishment will be similar to the last big one given to Miami, loss of scholarships and bowl games.

Ironic thing is, since Shapiro got involved with the program, the team has under performed. Their peak year was in 2002.

We're gonna get hammered, but USC style. Not [expletive]ing death penalty like some idiots out there are saying. Obviously I've done research being a huge Canes fan and there's so many holes in this story its insane. The thing that will get us hammered is coaches being involved apparently. If they can prove that then we're gonna get hit harder.

All I'm really going to say on this because I know this will turn into a dumb back and forth.
