Built Ford Tough
Andre Drummond, a 6-foot-11 centre from Middletown, Conn., who was expected to attend prep school this year, has instead said he will play basketball for defending national-champion Connecticut. Drummond confirmed an earlier report by The Hartford Courant with a posting on his Twitter account Friday that read, “It's official I'm heading to the university of connecticut to be a husky this year! Do I hear repeat.” A message was left with a school spokesman seeking comment. Drummond is considered one of the top prospects in the nation. Earlier this month, he said he planned to attend prep school in Massachusetts. It's not clear where his scholarship will come from. Connecticut has none available after losing three due to NCAA rules violations and a poor academic performance rating. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/basketball/top-prospect-andre-drummond-tweets-hes-headed-to-uconn/article2144521/ Nice get for the Huskies after losing Kemba. Obviously Drummond won't be able to replace the kind of production that Walker gave UCONN last season but pairing one of the top freshman with Lamb will definitely make them a good team next season. They aren't on a Kentucky or North Carolina level of talent, but I do like them quite a bit for next season.
Owner Real Deal Posted August 30, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted August 30, 2011 Shocker, really. I was pretty sure he was going to prep school. Huge break for UConn, though. Drummond is a freak.
AboveLegit
Love the move by both sides, Drummond picked a great program, but when is the last time Calhoun had a featured big man in his offense? As for their prospects in regards to their repeat, I'm not sure this puts them over UNC. He's very raw, and at times, shies away from contact, in the Big East, it will be a problem. But you gotta love the length the Huskies have now in the frontcourt, not sure any team in the nation matches up to that.
Owner Real Deal Posted September 2, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted September 2, 2011 but when is the last time Calhoun had a featured big man in his offense?Okafor, the year they won it all. He was known for his defense, but he was also one of the most difficult players to contain on the offensive end. I'm pretty sure he averaged as many points as Gordon that final season. And I would say Villanueva, but he really wasn't that big of a scorer.

Built Ford Tough
So the issue of UCONN not having any scholarships to give to Drummond has been resolved. Michael Bradley is giving up his scholarship and applying for financial aid to pay for school so that Drummond can come to UCONN. Andre Drummond has enrolled at Connecticut, and for the Huskies to add one of the top recruits in the nation onto their roster, someone needed to make a sacrifice with the team already in a scholarship crunch. Redshirt freshman Michael Bradley became that guy and is now a walk-on after qualifying to receive financial assistance for college. The part that I have a problem with, though, is supposedly Calhoun went up to Bradley, a kid who he knows has had a tough upbringing financially, and asked him to give up his scholarship. Now Bradley is in the spotlight after Calhoun asked him to give up his scholarship. New Haven Register beat writer David Borges wrote the piece on Bradley growing up in the children's home, and like our ESPN college basketball roundtable, he's a little uncomfortable that the freshman gave up a scholarship to accommodate Drummond. http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/34880/michael-bradley-gives-up-his-scholarship According to the article, Bradley said he would've done it whether Calhoun asked him or not and that he didn't feel pressured into doing it, but it still seems kind of wrong to go up to a 19 year old kid who you know full well had a very difficult upbringing and comes from a poor financial background and ask him to give up his scholarship so that you can get a 1 and done player. A very generous move on Bradley's part to give up the scholarship, but he better get some sort of compensation from Drummond when he goes pro or something. He is giving up an awful lot in this situation. Edited September 2, 2011 by Built Ford Tough
NomarFachix
LOL, don't worry, you didn't miss out on much.haha yeah, would have helped ease the loss of Deron/Head/Powell and then Dee/Augustine, though.. team/recruitment went to shit after that. Though, in the end, it's still [expletive] your boy Self.
