They weren't really handcuffed though, that's the thing. Nash was keeping hush-hush about the whole thing then Howson openly states he wants out and the value drops instantly.

Rangers final offer was Brandon Dubinsky, JT Miller, Tim Erixon, Christian Thomas and a first-round draft pick.

You either take that and hope they go on a run or you just finish your job out like he is doing. Also could have been the owners calling the shots as well but who knows.

Well, as far as I was aware, it didn't become known that Nash asked for a trade until after the deadline? Maybe I am wrong. Anyway, if it's true that Nash did request the trade, I think it's pretty important that the fans know this, especially the people who are shelling out tons of money for season tickets. If this whole process would have stayed under wraps, then obviously there'd have been no reason for Howson to say anything. But since the whole trade process was public, I think Howson owed it to the fans to tell them that it was the player, not the team. Just IMO though, I can see both sides of this.

To be honest, and maybe I'm being a homer or valuing the farm too highly.. I thought this was too much for Nash. I'm thrilled the move wasn't made.

Howson might be banking on the playoff teams tanking and overpaying in the summer, which isn't a terrible idea. Just risky.

The first person to state Nash requested a trade was Howson at the deadline.

It is great to let the fan base to know that he wanted out....if they had worked out a deal. Like you said about people showing up to watch games if they traded Nash away but how many people are going to show up knowing their captain doesn't even want to be playing in the game you just spent $100 on?

Depends on which way you look at it. You either are stating that you are going ALL in now or have faith that your team will either win or grow into a better team with those players.

If you feel you can lose one roster player and be that much better with Nash, then it is a no-brainer pulling the trigger on that deal.

I disagree, I think it was important either way. The team looks misguided enough as it is. Important for them to let the fans know that even though they tried (and failed) to trade Nash, it wasn't because they aren't committed to getting better. It was because they didn't have much choice.

This whole season makes the organization look awful, and this Nash saga wasn't going to help fan support either way, but it's very understandable why the front office/ownership wanted to save face.

I'm not a Ranger fan and I feel the same way. Even though its Nash, I never feel its a good idea to trade the whole farm for one player.

Forgoes everything we've worked for in getting younger and maintaining roster flexibility. Would be a move reminiscent to old Sather, making the big bang with star trades that don't work out and eat up cap room.

I think Nash definitely improves the chances to win this year, but keeping the kids allows us to be contenders for years to come. Erixon and Miller could be mainstays as early as next season, and Thomas' scoring prowess could have him on a PP line sooner than later.

Didn't have much choice? There are 50 other guys on the roster too and pretty much nothing was "improved".

Add that to the fact you try and bring up young players like Savard and Ryan and you have him in a dressing room with your leader who wants out. Not only do you look stupid stating the trade request, you manage to screw up whatever chemistry was left in the dressing room.

Either way I see Howson getting fired.

I'm saying it now, if the Capitals get the #8 seed and the Rangers get the #1 seed, the Capitals will win that series. I think the Capitals and Flyers could give the Rangers big trouble in the playoffs, but I just have that feeling about the Capitals.

Ovechkin and his all-time leading gpg average in the playoffs will be coming!

Lucic living up to his scum[expletive] name

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJn6e8e1ZCo

I wonder who started that?

Lucic hit him DURING the play, cleanly, and did not receive a penalty. McD then decided to initiate after the game was over. So, good try blaming that one on Lucic. Of everything Lucic has done, this is the last thing he should be blamed for. You're blind as shit if you think Lucic started it.

Facts are facts, and McD hit him first after the game was over. He's mad he was hit legally with time still on the clock.

Enjoy losing in the first round once again though.

Lucic was just roid raging because his team was about to lose (again) to the Rangers and Danny Girardi embarrassed him on a hit earlier.

Gloved punches after a weak push from a guy you hit from behind and drove his head into the boards with one second left in a game? Sounds like the Bruins. Stay thuggin and mean muggin.

I've always maintained that I do not like when Lucic pulls that shit with his gloves. He gets away with that a decent amount, so I do acknowledge he does that too often. However, there was still time on the clock with the puck behind the net. He's trying to get the puck lose and get it in front of the net. There's nothing wrong with that at all. McD pushed him after the play before Lucic even touched him after the game ended.

Again, I don't like what he does with his gloves in little scrums like that, but I'm not faulting him for yesterday.

Anyways, the Bruins haven't won two games in a row since January, so they need to get their heads out of their asses, and most importantly, get healthy for the playoffs.

I'm with ECN on this one. Lucic was just trying to free the puck up and made a hockey play on McDonagh. He may have used a bit of unecessary force and did contact the head a bit, but it wasn't anything malicious imo.

You can't expect Lucic not to retaliate to McDonagh coming after him after the hit.

Compared to some of the shit Lucic does, this was pretty tame. I absolutely hate the guy (fully admit I would love him if he was on my team, though) but I can't really get too upset about this particular instance.

I'm sure if this something like this happened tomorrow during the Leafs game, I'd probably get upset, though, haha.

Yeah, I just think McD didn't like the area of the hit, so he gave a weak push.. happens after every other play. The gloved hooks as retaliation was unnecessary and dirty, not that it's a shock at all from him.

The only reason it's been made out to be a big deal is because he's involved in scrums all the time, and because just the day before he was in a scrum and threw someones mouthguard in the stands.

He can be an ass, but I love him on the Bruins.

If the Bruins make it to the Stanley Cup finals and are up big in an elimination game for the opponent, I would love to send out Lucic and Marchand on the same line just to troll whoever they're playing.

The thing with Lucic is, he'll be edgy and play like that because no ones going to stop him from doing it, and when they try to stop him, it usually doesn't end well.

I want Horton back now. The bash brothers need to get back together!
