Phightins
For the record, I would love to see Lundqvist get a ring. The guy deserves it and he absolutely needs it to shut everyone up. Needs to shut who up? Maybe it's different in Canada, but down here the guy gets nothing but respect. Even around here, where the Rangers are mostly hated. Not sure I'd put any of that on him individually though. But I know that a large portion of national sports media isn't too intelligent, so I get it. Built Ford Tough
Marlies beat the OKC Barons 3-1 tonight to win the Western Conference Finals 4-1. They are 11-2 in the playoffs so far. They will be playing the Norfolk Admirals for the Calder Cup. For anybody who doesn't know, Norfolk won 28 games in a row earlier in the season (Universe mentioned it in the general hockey thread), so they are obviously a great team and are the favourites in this series. On the bright side, the series doesn't start until June 1st so the week off should hopefully be enough for Kardi, Zigomanis and Mueller to heal up and get back into the lineup, as well as give anybody else nursing minor injuries (I knowColborne missed some games earlier in the playoffs) some needed rest. As far as stats are concerned: D'Amigo has 8/4 for 12 pointsDupuis has 4/8 for 12 pointsFrattin has 8/3 for 11 pointsDeschamps has 3/8 for 11 pointsKadri has 3/7 for 10 pointsGardiner has 2/6 for 8 points Scrivens has posted a 0.942 SV% and a 1.66 GAA with 3 SO
DunkinDerozan
I'm loving this playoff run for the Marlies. I've watched a couple games and from what i've seen from some guys, it gets me more excited for next season. Frattin has really impressed me. It looks like he's really improved since I watched him on the Leafs. Gardiner is the best defense out there for either team in each game I've seen. And Scrivens had been very solid besides the one loss to OKC where he allowed 5 goals. If it wasn't for that one his GAA would be crazy. Deschamps and D'amigo have been impressive too. I'm going to try to watch every game in the finals.
Built Ford Tough
As if they weren't going to be hard pressed to beat Norfolk, word came out today that Frattin is out for the rest of the playoffs as he needs surgery on his knee. No word on how long the rehab will take, so hopefully he is ready for training camp next year. He injured himself while scoring the empty netter to clinch the series against the Barons. That means he is out, Kadri and Zigomanis are both still questionable, Colborne has been injured all playoff run and Ashton is still out with a concussion. The Marlies top 6 is seriously banged up right now, haha. On the bright side, the Marlies calling card all season long has been their defense and goaltending, so hopefully that will be enough to compensate for the injured top 6. DunkinDerozan
Don't think they stand much of a chance now.
DunkinDerozan
Who do the Leafs fans here hope/think the Leafs will draft on draft night next week? I really hope that Alex Galchenyuk will fall to us, but i'm starting to think its pretty doubtful. I don't care too much who we get, as long its one of the top 5 guys (Yakupov, Galchen, Forsberg, Murray or Grigorenko).
Check my Stats
Seems like the top 5 is a general consensus. Hoping for Galchenyuk but I am expecting Grigorenko, who I think will also be a good player.
DunkinDerozan
WOOOOO JVR FOR SCHENN! I'm so [expletive]ing pumped! Great dael Burke, you pulled off another beauty!
DunkinDerozan
Old news, but we signed Jay McClement to a 2 year deal worth 3 million. Also signed D, Mike Kostka to a 1 year contract. McClement is an upgrade over Steckel without question, and I'd say we got him at a great price. Now we have an even bigger log jam at centre, none of which 1C material. We're going to have to unload atleast one of Bozak, Grabovski, Colborne or Kadri. Kostka is nothing more than a depth Marlies signing. He probably has no chance of seeing the Leafs roster this season with the number of guys we have who are NHL ready at the position. We also re-signed Frattin, Hamilton and Rynnas. Built Ford Tough
Leafs re-signed Kulemin the other day. 2 years with a cap hit of $2.8M. I like the deal. I doubt he ever has another offensive season like he did two years ago, but I also don't think he will have as poor of an offensive season as he did last season either. I think he should be good for 15 or so goals a year. Add that to his excellent defensive play and board work and I really like this contract. The only downside is that he will be a UFA his next contract now.
DunkinDerozan
If Kulemin can get his confidence back I think he can be a 20-25 goal scorer. But the way he played last season was an absolute joke. I'm hoping for 40-45 points.
DunkinDerozan
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=639202 Maple Leafs 30 in 30. Not really anything great, just thought I'd post it
