ESPN has dropped Hank Williams Jr. from opening Monday Night Football tonight after Williams' controversial comments Monday about President Obama.

Says ESPN, in a statement: "While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize he is closely linked to our company through the opening to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."

Williams, perhaps best known for his "are you ready for some football?" lead-in to ESPN's Monday Night Football, Monday compared this summer's so-called golf summit between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner as "one of the biggest political mistakes ever."

As Williams put it on Fox News' Fox & Friends: "It would be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli leader) Benjamin Netanyahu."

When asked on Fox to explain his analogy, Williams said Obama and Vice President Biden are "the enemy."

Although ESPN has a policy about its on-air personalities getting involved in politics, Williams has said he's interested in running as a Republican in 2012 for a U.S. Senate seat in Tennessee.

It's not that big of a deal what he said. It's just ESPN fears the liberals and the politically correct crowd will think it's the worst thing in the world.

implying you'd want a moron representing your company. gee, and you think you're some prodigy in the business world

Yet, MTV still associates with Kanye West after his "George Bush hates black people comment". Sit down, child, you have a lot to learn.

Oh, no, Hank Williams spoke his mind and exercised his first amendment right. Would ESPN not show the game if Jim Caldwell made a racist comment about white people? I mean, he is representing the NFL.... .

Is is really that difficult for people to understand? He's not comparing the two saying that Obama's actions are of the same kind like Hitler. He was making a comparison of people that would be odd fits hanging out. Was it the best thing to say? Maybe not, but it's not as outrageous as some of you want to make it seem.

Again, why does MTV associate themselves with Kanye West after his very racist comments?

I think the follow-up question and his response is what put the nail in the coffin.

Because he makes them money. Hank Williams is expendable on ESPN.

The NFL would discipline Jim Caldwell. You really think Goodell would let that shit fly?

Kanye's shit wasn't on MTV or any Viacom network, so it doesn't effect them.

He has his first amendment right. He can't be punished by the government, and was not punished by the government. First amendment does not and has never protected you from calling your boss a racial slur or comparing your boss to Hitler at work. No, he did not say Obama is like Hitler, but it was not a good choice of a comparison. The dems and republicans are not enemies, and they are supposed to be working together. The guy is implying that Obama is as bad to republicans as Hitler was to the Jews. It really isn't that hard to interpret. Why not just say its like Kobe eating dinner with Paul Pierce? Tom Brady and Peyton Manning going golfing together and having a good time?

Let me break it down for you simpletons.

He was not comparing the actions of Hitler to those of Obama.

He was comparing how far apart Obama and Boehner are in their political views. It's really not that hard to understand.

Was it an poor comparison? Maybe, but to not be able to comprehend what was actual meant is even dumber.

Also, can anyone here tell me who Obama's top campaign donor was during 2008? I'm just kind of curious....

If he puts Obama and Hitler in the same sentence, as a general comparison between two groups of people, and follows that up by calling Obama the enemy...UH, YEAH?

Republicans will do anything to deny this one. Here's how they heard the comment...

"It would. Be like? Hitler. Playing golf with Benjamin Netanyahu?"

No compar'sn, ya'll, 'cus dere were 6 of them sentencers in one sentence.

There is no excuse to use such a retarded comparison. You are the only person that would try to defend something like this, and it is because you're just trolling

Herp derp.

If you can't grasp what Williams was trying to say, then I don't know what to say. Was it a poor choice for a comparison? Possibly, but it's blatantly obvious what his point was, and it wasn't that Obama is a killer and murderer like Hitler.

why do you even care? if you were in charge of a multi-billion dollar corporation, you would have terminated Williams as well.

As I said before, the follow-up where he called Obama and Biden 'the enemy' is what put the nail in the coffin. That's where people will link what he said as a comparison of Obama and Hitler. Whether he meant it that way or not, I don't know for sure, but it caused enough bad publicity that he wasn't worth keeping on ESPN. The first ammendment makes sure he doesn't get locked up for it, but it doesn't protect you from private business (some situations tread in grayish areas, but not this one). This is captialism at its finest, so I don't get the bitching.

He was trying to say exactly what he said: that Obama is the enemy of his own country. The President of the country he lives in.

If Hank has a problem, he should pack up his guitar and his old ass music, jump on a donkey and ride to Mexico.

Hitler an enemy, Obama an enemy. It's one plus one...not too hard to figure out. He doesn't have to say that Obama is a murderer, that wasn't the point...but, like always, you know that.

I admit, the Kanye West one was a poor one, and I understand why ESPN did what they did. It's all about business, but I just don't think people should overreact about his comments. I don't think they were that bad, when it's obvious what he was trying to say.

It's clearly not obvious, though, considering how divided people are on this. I thought his comments were taken wrong until I read 'the enemy' thing, which makes it very hard to decipher exactly what he meant with the comparison.
