Which SF from the 2012 draft would fill in best?

Recommended Posts

The Clippers have a massive hole at the SF position. Which rookie fits in best with the team? The Wolves so far are 1st pick on most mock drafts and that pick would belong to the Clippers (likely top 5).

Anthony Davis is supposedly the next KG. Would he fit well as a stretch 3/4 combo? Harrison Barnes who may not have as much upside but is NBA ready and should be a contributor immediately? James McAdoo the combo forward who is being compared to James Worthy? Quincy Miller? Michael Gilchrist?

Looks like the Clippers are lucky as hell having a probable top 5 pick in quite possibly the best SF deep draft in NBA history. All of these guys seem to have star potential. What do you guys think? Who would fit the best with Griffin, Gordon and CO.? Who do you think is likely to be picked by the team if they do get a top 5 pick? Which of these players has the most upside?

Barnes would be perfect. LAC doesn't need another superstar, they have Griffin, Gordon is a legit number 2 franchise piece and Barnes would be an awesome 3rd piece there. Feel like a point would be a better grab for LAC though, is Bledsoe really the answer? For some reason I doubt it.

Yeah, used to think Quincy Miller would fit us more but now I'm sure Harrison Barnes is the pick. Unless we get lucky and Andre Drummond is on the board... He just might have too much talent to pass on regardless of position... I say that only because I'm excited by the hype given that he will be a Uconn Husky... I haven't even seen him play beyond You Tube highlights.

I think that Gilchrist would be an outstanding fit, assuming the Clippers get a point guard who is a scoring threat. His defensive ability would be a great compliment to Griffin's offense. Gordon is an excellent defender as well and the pair of Gilchrist/Gordon would be a very formidable perimeter defensive duo.

I like how a lineup of:

Jordan

Griffin

Gilchrist

Gordon

Offensive minded PG

compliments each other. Griffin, Gordon and the PG would provide the offensive punch, with Jordan and Gilchrist being athletic finishers. On the other end, Jordan would provide the lane intimidation, Gilchrist and Gordon would be the defensive stoppers and Griffin would control the glass. I like the mix of offense/defense in that lineup.

However, as much as I like the fit that Gilchrist would provide, if the Clippers have a chance to draft Barnes there is no reason to pass on him (unless Drummond proves to be Howard-esque). He is too talented and is also a fantastic fit to pass up on. I disagree in Shaliq's assessment that he doesn't have as much upside as other potential small forwards. I think he has just as much upside as any small forward in the draft, aside from maybe Miller.

Miller's offensive upside may be too much to pass up as well. If he reaches his potential, he may end up as Durant-lite and the thought of pairing Griffin and him on offense, with Gordon being one of the best 3rd options in the game, is drool worthy.

So my order would be:

1. Barnes

2. Miller (have to see how he bounces back from his knee injury before I can put him above Barnes)

3. Gilchrist

Neither Anthony Davis or James McAdoo are going to be small forwards in the NBA if you ask me. I think both of these two will be best served playing the 4.

On second thought, Andre Drummond might be a must draft if he's still on the board. But still Harrison is probably the safest bet. He's the most stable SF. Meaning not all upside, not all skill with no potential. He's got good upside and is NBA ready. I think we need to hold onto the pick though. Iguodala may not be worth costing us a chance at someone like Barnes/Drummond.

If we are patient enough we will end up with a dominant young core that can be elite for the next decade, assuming Sterling retains all the key pieces.

Imagine..

Bledsoe

Gordon

Barnes

Griffin

DJ

or

Bledsoe

Gordon

Prince

Griffin

Drummond

?? Excellent core. Especially if DJ is willing to stay as our 6th man and back up Drummond.
