Built Ford Tough
Nice, Shulman is calling the game. I don't know what it is about him, but I really like him as a commentator. And then of course there is Vitale. Over/Under on how many times he uses the phrase "diaper dandy"? He has already used it once and the broadcast has been on air for about a minute. Built Ford Tough
Nice strip by Kidd-Gilchrist to start the break. Too bad Jones made an awful decision with the ball and ended up traveling, even with the 3-2 numbers advantage. Lamb makes up for it on the next possession by finding a streaking Davis in transition. He really runs the floor well, especially for a 6'11 guy. That was a nice play by Davis to catch and finish. It isn't often you see a guy Davis' size be able to catch and finish running full speed ahead, especially when he catches the ball so deep already. AboveLegit
He really runs the floor well, especially for a 6'11 guy.YES. Probably my favorite part about his game, he runs the floor very well, and it showed on that last play.
Built Ford Tough
Davis is dominating the offensive glass right now. He has at least 3 offensive boards in the first 4 minutes, including a very impressive tip in (which he followed up with a block on the other end of the floor). He has one hell of a motor and that, combined with his length, makes him able to really impact the game in the paint, whether it is rebounding or blocking shots. In the first 4 minutes, he has 4 points, 4 rebounds and 4 blocks. Teague still does not impress me at all, though. He has a two on one and instead of making a simply bounce pass, he decides to try a finger roll, which he promptly misses. The next possession he winds up taking a quick three. He really needs to learn how to run a team better. Edited December 2, 2011 by Built Ford Tough
Built Ford Tough
St. John's is really struggling with Kentucky's length on defense. They have already had 3 shot clock violations and a number of other possessions where they forced up a poor shot as the clock was winding down. They have absolutely nothing going for them offensively right now. Davis had added 2 steals to his statline now. He is stitting at something like 4 points, 5 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals. EDIT: Even after the timeout they can't run anything. A bunch of passing around the perimeter until the shot clock winds down. They then force up a 3, which Jones ends up blocking. This defensive performance is brilliant right now. Edited December 2, 2011 by Built Ford Tough
AboveLegit
Not sure why Dick Vitale said Derrick Rose struggled when he first got to Memphis, I recall him playing very well early on. He had some trouble playmaking, but not like Teague.. Right now, Teague is more of a combo guard, he just forces things way too often, and looks for his shot too much. Biggest problem I have with him is that he doesn't have the court vision that we saw with John Wall, or even Derrick Rose. He's going to be more like Brandon Knight. Built Ford Tough
As well as Kentucky has played defensively, they have been equally as bad offensively. There is no movement and players are basically just taking turns trying to beat their man one-on-one. The only time they are getting any good looks is when they are able to get out in transition. Built Ford Tough
Nasty put-back jam off of the missed free throw by Jones to end the half. It is an 11 point lead for Kentucky, but it really should be more if they just execute offensively. Their defense has been incredible as St. John's has absolutely no answer for them. Davis may flirt with a triple double if he keeps this up. He has 7 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks at the half. Jones played well in that half as well, with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks. St. John's just as now answer for those two. I haven't really noticed Kidd-Gilchrist out there, though. I completely forgot that he was even on the team. I can't really recall anything he did in that half. It just goes to show how talented Kentucky is when a player like Gilchrist can be absolutely invisible and yet they still completely dominate a half. AboveLegit
St. Johns has some athletic players on the team, not sure why Dunlap isn't pushing the pace of the game. These halfcourt sets aren't working for them, Kentucky is just killing them. Gilchrist is just one of those intangible players, he needs to develop something on offense in order for him to stand out. Built Ford Tough
They probably figure that if they get into a track meet with Kentucky that the game would get even more out of hand. Can't really say I blame them, considering Kentucky is probably the most athletic team in the country. As for Gilchrist, I understand that about him. However, in the other Kentucky games I've watched, he still stood out to me even though he didn't really put up a lot of points, but he would make a great defensive player, a nice drive and dish or something like that. Today I just haven't noticed him doing anything, whether offensively or defensively. What the hell was Teague thinking there? That was an awful charge. AboveLegit
That lob to Anthony Davis has been there almost every possession for Kentucky. Cannot wait to see the UNC game. Zeller and Henson going up against Davis, Strickland guarding Teague, Gilchrist guarding Barnes.
AboveLegit
The casual fan would think Davis is just a good weakside defender, but he's so much more. He can anchor the paint by himself, his man to man defense is great, and he's smart.
Built Ford Tough
Pretty weak technical foul call there. Jones completely overreacted there and it did not look bad to me at all. Hardly worth a T. Then again, I only saw it out of the corner of my eye since they cut to the bench at that moment. I may have missed something. Built Ford Tough
It seems like every basket Davis has scored in this game has been either an offensive rebounds and put back or an ally-oop. St. John's doesn't even bother trying to prevent it anymore since they know they can do nothing about it.
AboveLegit
Well Davis' night is done, came two blocks short of a triple double. Scary to think how he's going to look by March, could be dominant.
Built Ford Tough
Time: 7:00PM ESTTV: ESPN Looking forward to seeing Bradley Beal. I caught a bit of him in the OSU game, but this will be the first time I really watch him. Game just got underway now.
Built Ford Tough
Florida doing a really poor job of attacking Syracuse's zone. They are just swinging the ball from side to side as opposed to trying to get into the heart of the zone, which leads to poor three point jumpers. Walker has no consience, though. He has taken some long, long 3's in this game. He has attempted about 3 30 foot jumpers and made 2 of them. I haven't noticed Beal yet, though. He has only taken one shot, but he has done a decent job on the glass with 3 boards so far. For Cuse, Kirs Joseph has been doing a nice job of making plays with his activity. He has kept some balls alive on the offensive glass, ran the floor well and hit a transition 3. He is doing a nice job of deflecting passes on defense as well. Flash
Heels looking good early on getting a huge boost from PJ Hairston right now. These are the 2 best teams in the country IMO.
valo35
I think Ohio State is every bit as good as these two teams, but it's close between them. I don't know if UNC has gotten tired or what, but their bigs don't seem to be as dominant the past 3 or 4 minutes, as they was for the first 15 minutes. Kentucky has been getting on the offensive glass the past few minutes, and it has helped to keep this score close. Terrence Jones is having a big day so far. Dash
Great block by Davis to win it. Not sure what the Tar Heels were thinking, there was still plenty time of left and they were only down one. Should have fouled.
AboveLegit
If you haven't been watching, I highly suggest you do now. Kentucky down by 3 to Indiana, Teague benched to start the half, I hope Indiana keeps it interesting.
Flash
Hell of a game going on. Kentucky fighting through Davis' foul trouble.
AboveLegit
Kentucky resorting back to their old selves by playing one on five basketball...not gonna work against this motivated Indiana team. Terrance Jones is having an awful game right now... and still no sign of Teague. 16 turnovers for Kentucky as well.
