College Basketball Gameday Discussion

Henson really is an awful offensive player when you push him outside of 10 feet.

It makes you wonder about what is going through his head out there. With his length and athleticism, there isn't a player in the ACC that can stop him when he gets the ball 5 feet from the hoop, yet he takes crazy fadeaway jumpers or hook shots that play right into the defense's hands.

Case in point, he takes a brutal turnaround hook that hits the side of the backboard and then the next possession he gets the ball 5 feet from the hoop and gets an easy dunk.

Him shooting below 50% against this Clemson frontline is really inexcusable if you ask me.

I could watch Barnes shoot jumpers all day long. His shoot is so smooth.

There really is no defense for his one dribble pull up jumper. It is nearly automatic.

Clemson made a nice run to cut the lead to 6 earlier in the half, but they couldn't break through and take advantage of UNC going 5 straight possessions without scoring. Since then, Carolina has taken over and put this game out of reach.

Just finished watching that game. All I can say is wow. I love Harrison Barnes. He hits jumper after jumper, and like you said, its just soooo smooth. I also love his aggressiveness. He not only hits jumpers but he can drive to the basket, and draw fouls. He's also a good rebounder and I saw atleast one offensive rebound. I'm sold on Barnes, and if the Raptors can find a way to get him, I'll be ecstatic. :)

I haven't watched the Huskies for a while, but I can see why they are struggling so much this season.

They really don't have any chemistry together, nobody is talking, no fluidity to their offense and everybody is basically just doing their own thing out there. It really is painful to watch.

Drummond with a perfect example of what scouts love about him and what scouts hate about him in one play.

He makes an impressive block and rather than swatting it into the stands, he simply grabs it. However, with 5 seconds left in the half he heaves the ball at the rim instead of throwing an outlet to one of the three UConn players who were wide open. He shows his great shot blocking and awesome athleticism by blocking the shot and showed his lack of basketball IQ and how he doesn't always have his head in the game by throwing that stupid heave.

As for UConn, it took them 15 minutes to realize that they were actually playing a game out there. They got behind by 18 points and within a matter of 5 minutes they managed to tie the game up at the half. This team has talent, but they are so unorganized, disinterested and play really stupid out there at times that it really must be infuriating for their fans and coaches.

Lamb goes 1 of 2 from the line to make it just a 2 point lead.

Johnson drives to the paint and scores for Nova to tie it up with 5 seconds left.

Napier gets the inbound, dribbles down the court and pulls up from about 30 feet and drains it to give the Huskies the win.

Now onto the Texas/Baylor game.

Thomas Robinson went up for a rebound between two Oklahoma State players and came up gimpy. He is on the bench getting his knee looked at, although I'm not sure if it is the same knee that he had the meniscus surgery on before or if it is the one that has been bothering him this season (MCL sprain, I believe). Could potentially be bad news for Kansas.

EDIT: Nevermind, he came back in the game as I typed this. Looks like nothing.

Kansas broke that trap and scored in a matter of seconds.

Bob Knight is right, Oklahoma State really shouldn't look to try and trap this Kansas team like that as they are way to experienced and organized for it to work. It will just lead to easy baskets for the Jayhakws.

Besides, they are playing good enough defense that they should just continue to play straight up. Its not like Kansas is really picking them apart on offense anyways. Their problem is that they can't score on Kansas' defense.

In today's segment of BFT talking to himself, I'll be discussing the UNC/Maryland game with, well, myself.

If anybody is interested in breaking my near 20 consecutive post streak and discussing the game with me, here is a link to the game:

UNC's length inside is really getting to Maryland. They've missed some great looks right around the basket because of the presence of guys like Henson (who also has 2 blocks), Zeller and McAdoo. They are just throwing it up at the rim instead of gathering themselves.

Speaking of Henson, I was really impressed by the two post moves he has scored on in this game. Usually he just catches the ball and uses his length to shoot over guys, but he actually showed nice footwork on one move and then a nice fake that lead to a turnaround hook on another. Nice to see him getting on the block and not settling for outside jumpers.

Maryland can't hit a shot to save their lives, and they keep turning the ball over...combo of just stupid decisions (seems like they are playing scared) and UNC playing defense.

Stoglin sucks, by the way (well, doesn't really suck, but you know...). He can score the ball, but his shooting is far too inconsistent.

That was a hell of a pass from Marshall to find Bullock (or was it Hairston?) underneath. Great recovery from the Maryland defense to block the shot (I think two people got it as well, lol), though. It looked like it was going to be an easy two.

Stoglin is just straight chucking right now.

Thought it was Watts.

Good spin move, almost looked like a travel though. Maryland trying to cut into that lead.

Gotta run, BFT. We need more college basketball talk, most definitely. :( Props for basically holding the fort in here.

Well, it was fun while it lasted, lol.

I'll be here all night as I plan on checking out Myck Kabongo after this game, although I'll be watching the Leafs game as well (Texas game on my laptop).
