EastCoastNiner
Wow, this is an absolute joke, and I better not have to pay for this [expletive] again since they want more money. This idiot president is putting us in more debt and taking out money!

EastCoastNiner
Except Fox News, where ECN gets his "news". No, actually ABC News was saying the same thing, and no, most people do not like this. The people that like it are the ones trading in their cars and actually getting money for them, NOT the people that aren't doing this program, which is hundreds of millions of more people, but good try. This idiot of a president is putting us in more debt, and we are going to have to pay for this when we are older. Good try saying most people like this program though. . J-Rat
You're and idiot ECN, everyone likes this. Not only did they run out of money within a week or so I believe, but the government is granting Obama 2 billion more to continue this program because it's such a success. Jenneral
Don't you realize ECN, this country will never be out of debt. We will always just keep digging a deeper hole. So don't worry, you won't be paying for this program at any point in your life... our country's debt will not be fixed.

alcstarheel
I don't see how over 180,000 in new car purchases, over a month, is a bad thing. Not to mention other countries that are, have, will be doing the same thing across the Atlantic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrappage_program

Why should I pay for people getting new cars when I'm not getting one? It's stupid, just like the failed stimulus package, that WE are going to be paying for when we are older. Owner Real Deal Posted August 6, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted August 6, 2009 Either you pay a little more with the tax increases as you get older, or you start burning your money for firewood, since firewood will cost too much, during the winters of a second Great Depression. I know which one I'd rather do.

It's stupid, just like the failed stimulus package, that WE are going to be paying for when we are older.Do you know that if you don't inject money into the economy you won't get anything out of it in the end? That's the basic principle of economics. We have to pay for a lot of things "without a return." People look at taxes as paying for nothing. Look, the government is, and always has been, like a business. Taxpayers are investors in the business. If a company like Google lost investment money, they would suffer. If the government lost tax money, it would suffer. As an tax payer (investor) you are investing in the well being of the whole country so that it can continue to be prosperous (or regain prosperity), and so you can continue to benefit from it. Now, just like any business, you aren't going to agree with everything upper management (or "upper government") does. But that's okay. You can always take your "investment" money elsewhere.
Guest N4S
The Cash for Clunkers Program is another attempt to cripple a private industry in America and make it a government run operation. This is happening all over. They are printing the money with the assumption that they will be taxing us to back up the bonds that are supposed to pay for these printed dollars. So, really, they are stealing this money from us. America is operating in a deficit and we have no money. The only way to pay for these government programs is to first tax small businesses (which has lead and will lead to more layoffs and closings), and then FURTHER tax all middle class income households. When you guys move out of mommy and daddy's house and take a look at your paychecks you will need to ask yourself where the $300-500 dollars in taxes is going.

Thanks N4S, Dont get me wrong I am all for taxes and everything. But I aint down with my taxes supporting illegals or gay people, its a waste of my money. This Universal Health Care Plan would be a total waste, yeah lets give the illegals health care. I say [expletive] em, I had to come here legally and they just plain cross the border life is not fair. I love democracy and America, but it is to the point where every loophole in America is being taken advantage off, and like this we will not survive. A lot of people are doing unethical things, because they are not illegal. Its just like Enron all over again, some of you shoudl compare Enron to what we are going through now and look at the similarities.Or lets compare Madoff to the president, when madoff takes your money it is illegal and he is a bad guy. The president takes your money, it is okay because he is the president??

However, people that aren't trading in their cars are still paying for this bull-[expletive] program, and just to let you know, the car dealerships are making very little money off of this, and they are working long shifts. For every billion given out, 225,000 people are given the money. So after this 1 billion spent plus the 2 billion coming, thats 3 billion which amounts to 675,000 people. Not only are many of those people buying american made cars, but they are also helping to lower carbon emissions. Yeah because you obviously didn't know that you don't get the trade-in money without proving that you are buying a car that is better in gas mileage. So this program is two-fold, helping out the big car companies in the U.S. as well as lowering carbon emissions, which slows down global warning. Also, you said people are working long shifts, but if anything this is increasing jobs as of now to produce more cars.

Guest N4S
Also the true problem with the cash for clunkers program is the same on that caused the housing market problem. If you couldn't afford a new car before guess what you still can't. People forget that while the $4500.00 credit seems great, you'll be paying higher insurance, higher tag cost, higher upkeep.

Owner Real Deal Posted August 6, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted August 6, 2009 So the logical solution is to give cash for newer cars, and put you in an 80's model that needs a lot of maintenance and drains you in gas prices? The Cash for Clunkers idea rushes production, pushes for focus on the auto industry, slaps gas prices in the throat, helps the environment, and gives people a reason to get a newer model car, overall. Nobody is pushing these guys to turn their cars in. They are excited to. There are people out in the world that won't get a new car only because they truly feel their hunk-o-junk still gets them from one place to another, but they can still afford it. Owner Real Deal Posted August 6, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted August 6, 2009 In fact, here's the big question: if not this, what needs to be done? If this isn't the answer, I want someone to tell me what is. Tell me how you can boost auto sales, and give me proof of it working.
