CBA "B-List" Issues

The NBA and NBPA met today to hammer out the details of the "B-List" issues that we have heard so much about.

Some details are:

* The international player buyout amount is increased from $500,000 to $525,000 this year, and by $25,000 each additional season.

*Players with three or fewer years of service can receive unlimited assignments to the NBA Development League but will be paid their NBA salaries. Players with more than three years of service can be assigned to the D-League with their consent, for example, for injury rehab.

In the old CBA it was 2 years. The NBA originally wanted 5, but agreed to cut it down to 3.

* Beginning in 2012-13, players can be tested a maximum of two times during the offseason for performance-enhancing drugs only. Previously, players were subject to four random drug screenings from Oct. 1-June 30. HGH testing is not included, but the joint NBA-NBPA committee will study its possible future inclusion if it is agreed that the tests would be scientifically reliable.

* Draft eligibility age remains set at one year removed from high school, with a joint NBA-NBPA committee discussing future changes as early as the end of this season.

There is talk about allowing players to enter the draft out of high school, but if they are not chosen they will be able to go to college. However, if they do declare and aren't drafted, they will have to go to college for 3 seasons before being draft eligible again. That is just one of the scenarios I've come across, but as of now, it is all just speculation as there is no real set rule in place as of now.

That is all I've found for now. When I come across more, I'll add to this post.

Easy for you to say when the Heat don't have any draft picks for the next 100 years and are going to be in the playoffs for the next 100 years.

Haha I've always been a fan of this idea though. There's always the exception to the rule like LeBron, Kobe, KG etc. but the overwhelming majority would've been better suited to go to college for 2 years. Not only does it help their game, but IMO it helps in terms of character and work ethic since most will likely be playing for the top coaches in the nation.

I would like to see a rule where you can go out of HS, but if you don't you go to college for 2 years. Appeases everyone IMO.

Agreed.

College isn't for everyone, much less those who are only there because they feel forced to be there. It's unfair to the player, the program, and the university.

I don't like the idea of age limits or restrictions on adults, but at least this is a fair compromise. If a player is good enough out of HS to make it, he should be able to go to the NBA. If he fails, oh well, he made a big boy decision. If a player chooses college, a program shouldn't have to worry about him being one-and-done.
