Dash
We are screwed. Morey just spent an entire day working on a deal that is now dead, seemed like he had another move or two up his sleeve too. Chuck's agent was pushing for the Rockets to make an offer ASAP and we kept asking for more time to complete the CP3 deal and sign Nene. No idea what Morey does now. AboveLegit
On a more serious note, I'm kind of confused by all this. Are the owners doing this because they feel the Hornets aren't getting a good amount in return? Or are they doing this for the more obvious reason of them not wanting to see star players going to big market teams?

Dash
They probably don't want another super team around. Really I don't get why the NBA bought the Hornets in the first place, seemed like a disaster from the start.

kingfish
Lol its going to be great when CP3 becomes a free agent and just signs with us anyways. Or have him go to New York with Dwight, Amare, and Melo. This isnt going to stop anything no matter how much the owners bitch about it. Teletopez
The owners didn't veto a trade. They pressured Stern into calling it off. Owners felt it was wrong for a team without a legitimate owner to make a deal. It's why Cuban didn't like the Hornets making the trade around the deadline last February. If I'm not mistaken, this trade was called off by the NBA acting as the owners of the Hornets, not as executives of the league. They essentially blocked the trade of the franchise they own. Hornets need a new owner soon if they want to deal CP3.

I'd love to post many more superstars that were dealt for basically nothing at all, but I don't need to, because everyone on OTR has been alive for those trades as well. It's kind of funny when you think about it. It reminds me of that young 11-year old kid that had to take a seat after he continued to score TD's, and eventually, they made a new rule that said a player could not score more than 3 TD's in a game if the score is +14 or greater. It's going to be hard for me to really care about any other team in the league after this, including the Thunder.

There is some validity to the move, but there's still a lot that's messed up about it. 1) The league didn't address this issue during the lockout. 2) The Landry deal went down without a problem in February (which may indicate the real motives for pushing Stern to call it off). 3) The Hornets went through all the negotiations before finding out about this. They have a GM, and a General Manager has all of the authority to make the necessary decisions he was making under the previous owner. Demps was the GM before the team was purchased from Chouest and Shinn.
Owner Real Deal Posted December 9, 2011 Owner Report Share Posted December 9, 2011 Also, I did forget the two guys that said it earlier...but the Lakers and the rest of the league will decline to admit that the owners complained and altered the trade. Makes sense, too. If Stern wasn't going to let this happen, he would've stopped all discussion beforehand. Fact is, the owners went ballistic once the Hornets decided to start telling them (and the GM's) that the trade was final...which was initially reported. It's pretty obvious, and funny. Basically, the league is going to make someone mad with just about any direction they take in this. There's a chance that the owners were truly against the deal because of Paul going to L.A., but it was just labeled as wrong because the Hornets don't have a real owner... or at least that's what I suspect. The Hornets GM was given the power by the league to make moves with the Hornets so they didn't have to be involved with day to day operations. The GM made a great deal and then this shit happens
