Boston set to acquire Brandon Bass for Glen Davis?

With the Boston Celtics in desperate need for big bodies, they traded one of their own in Glen "Big Baby" Davis on Friday.

Davis was dealt to the Orlando Magic as part of a sign-and-trade in return for power forward Brandon Bass, both of whom are former LSU stars.

Davis's asking price was too high for Boston, which owned Big Baby's "Bird rights." But with Davis looking for a deal that exceeded the full midlevel exemption of $5 million, Danny Ainge decided to find a trade partner.

Despite being undersized, Bass is a guy that Orlando management was high on.

Instead, the Magic acquire Davis, who's coming off of an up-and-down season. He was much better early in the season than he was toward the end. Davis ended up putting up decent numbers, averaging 11.7 points per game and 5.4 rebounds per game in 29.5 minutes of action.

Bass averaged similar numbers for the Magic last season, posting career highs.

The acquisition of Davis may be a plea to Dwight Howard to get him to stay in Orlando, as Davis is one of the guys who Howard had asked Magic GM Otis Smith to sign.
