He left town before the All-Star break due to a family matter and was scheduled to play with the D-League’s Texas Legends in suburban Frisco tonight, but instead reported directly to Dallas to try and help the Mavericks snap a season-high four-game losing streak. The embattled forward, who was last season’s NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year with the Lakers, had his best game of the season against Utah on Jan. 27 with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting and five rebounds. “No. 1, we’re struggling and could use the extra manpower, and No. 2, his workouts have been going well,” head coach Rick Carlisle said. “It just seemed like it was best for him to join the team at this time.
