Multi-Billionaire
MEMPHIS, TENN. — The Nuggets sent Steven Hunter, a protected 2010 first-round pick and cash to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for a future second rounder, Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace said today. The trade could give Memphis three first-round selections in the 2010 draft. The Grizzlies already are owed the Lakers' 2010 pick to complete the February 2008 trade that sent Pau Gasol to Los Angeles. The 7-foot Hunter is a seven-year pro out of DePaul who played 19 games with Denver last season averaging 6.3 minutes and 2.3 points. The Grizzlies drafted 7-3 Hasheem Thabeet with the No. 2 pick overall in June and also have 7-1 Marc Gasol on the roster. http://www.denverpost.com/nuggets/ci_13016643 Nice, we traded probably the least used player on the roster... to shed more salary. But I have a feeling this could be a Part 1 of the trade between us and Grizzlies. Because it does not really make sense for the Grizzlies. Hunter makes $3.6 mil, why add more salary when they already have Randolph, Thabeet, Gasol, Haddadi, Arthur? Do they really value our 2010 "protected" pick? Doubtful. They'd rather use the frontcourt minutes to develop Haddadi or Arthur or even give more minutes to Gasol who easily can be a 15 and 10 guy. The Grizz for sure look like they're going to trade one of their bigs... hopefully it's Gasol to us for Kleiza (sign and trade). It would be big for us... and then last step would be to find Kleiza's scoring replacement off the bench.
Cleveland's Finest
Is Steven Hunter traded every year?
Multi-Billionaire
Not really, he'd been with us since 2006-07 season I believe.
xx.
I dont care if the trade works for salary reasons giving up a 1st rounder and getting a 2nd rounder back means its a bad trade.

From team's financial perspective no it's not a bad trade. Hunter makes $3.6 mil and last season he played only 19 games and faced a career threatening injury. With teams losing money every year, this is a very good trade in cutting salary. Second round draft pick is low cost, and to convince Memphis, who already had 5 bigs, to take Hunter's salary we had to sweeten the deal with a 1st round pick. And this move also allows us to make a bigger move.
