magicbalala245
With Rashard Lewis unavailable, free-agent acquisition Brandon Bass most likely would take Lewis' place as the Magic's starting power forward. Mickael Pietrus and Matt Barnes, another free-agent signee, would compete for the starting job at small forward. "Anytime you're missing an all-star player and a great offensive player like Rashard, it certainly hurts you," Van Gundy said. But he added that Lewis' absence could have a "silver lining" and give the team "a better indication of where we want to go in terms of lineups and rotations when Rashard gets back." His Greatness
NelsonCarterBassHowardGortat That should be the starting lineup with Lewis out 10 games.Zzone defense would terrorize that unit. Gortat isn't going to start.
JWaLL
No way Bass starts at the SF. NelsonPietrusCarterBassHoward^^Yeah that's the lineup I pictured. Bass would get toasted at the small forward. Plus it's no guarentee that Gortat will start.
Cleveland's Finest
Is Pietrus gonna play at SG and start all year? Or will Shard play SF, Vince at SG, and Bass play PF?
A.K.
^We have two options: NelsonCarterLewisBassHowardWith a very strong bench of Pietrus, Gortat, and Barnes. OR NelsonCarterPietrus/BarnesLewisHowardWith our twin towers and either Pietrus or Barnes off of the bench. It'll likely be the first lineup but it'll vary depending on matchups. TheNextBestThing
I would unquestionably go for the second choice. What made the Magic so great last year (I'm sure I don't have to tell you) is that having 4 players who could dribble and shoot created serious matchup problems. It also let Howard go more or less mano-a-mano against his man inside, because Orlando's shooters could punish a double team. You really need to preserve that. As for the SF spot, the right choice is Pietrus. Since their abilities are reasonably close, you would do fine with either. But, Pietrus is a returning player, while Barnes is a new addition. Mickael may well lose motivation if a contested spot is given to the new walk-on.
