We told you earlier today that LaMarcus Aldridge is on the verge of being added to the preliminary Team USA roster for the 2012 Olympics. Now we’re reporting something even better: The entire 19-man roster.

Here it is, alphabetically, from my impeccable international basketball sources:

LaMarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony, Chauncey Billups, Chris Bosh, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Durant, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin, Dwight Howard, Andre Iguodala, LeBron James, Kevin Love, Lamar Odom, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, Dwyane Wade, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams

I think it'll end up being:

PG: Paul/Rose/Westbrook

SG: Wade/Kobe/Gordon

SF: LeBron/Durant/Melo

PF: Blake/Love

C: Dwight/Aldridge

Melo>Bron

Chandler>Aldridge

on the international level...

lol @ Odom being invited, kinda disappointed Amar'e wasn't...

LeBron's defense and playmaking ability is what's going to get him the nod over Melo. It was tough between Chandler and Aldridge for me. Could go either way with that one.

I'm not saying Melo should get the nod, but Lebron's playmaking simply isn't as effective against well executed zone defenses.

It worked in 08. Plus, this lineup is so talented that its not going to matter. His defense and skill on the break is what puts him over the top.

skill on the break? lol this isn't the NBA, this international ball brah. Melo's ability to shoot the ball and contested jumpers and post up from anywhere makes him invaluable. Chris Paul and Wade will be making enough plays. LeBron on a condensed court is not as good as Melo is. Defense or not.

LeBron was way better than Melo in 2008 (Melo was better in 06 and 07, though). Forget the zone...people forget how Team USA played in 2008. It was basically the Miami Heat on steroids, with teams struggling to even get the ball past halfcourt on them, and then Team USA turning those turnovers to easy points. LeBron fits perfectly in that system, and his ballhandling/playmaking was also very valuable to that team as well.

My team would be....

Rose/Paul/Deron

Kobe/Wade

LeBron/Melo

Durant/Blake/Love

Dwight/Chandler

Wade was amazing in the 6th man role back in 2008, and I ain't gettin my hopes up of the coaching staff putting Kobe on the bench, so that's why I did that. Paul is a better player than Rose, but with Kobe and LeBron, his playmaking isn't really needed...I like Rose's athleticism and finishing ability instead. Durant is impossible to defend at the 4, and LeBron could take most of those defensive responsibilities if needed.

How is chandler better suited for the international level than aldridge? Aldridge can post up way better and can also hit an international 3 a lot better than chandler.

Defensively Chandler's length is more valuable. I can see why some would want him in the middle over LA.

I mean I guess considering there's enough scoring on the team maybe he would be a better fit, but offensively I'd rather have LA considering he can spread a bit more and can help against those zone defenses.

You need more PG's on the team.

Also, I doubt this staff has the balls to tell Kobe Bryant to come off the bench but let's not forget who played the best basketball in the 08 Olympics. It was Mr. Wade.

Though I love Westbrook, I think Deron Williams probably will/should make it over him. And I wasn't much of a basketball fan during the last summer olympics, and I don't watch any basketball outside north america so i'm just wondering, what exactly do you guys mean by the "international game"? How is it any different then NBA play?

3pt line is shorter as is the court, thus allowing for less spacing, which makes it harder for players to get to the rim. You are allowed to grab the ball off the rim, which in the NBA is goaltending. The referees tend to be even more awful than the NBA, and they allow for more physicality. Lastly, zone is a lot more popular in the international game.
