Built Ford Tough
The deep, dangerous roster of the San Antonio Spurs just got a little bit less so — reserve guard T.J. Ford will be out four to six weeks with a longitudinal tear of his left hamstring. Ford sustained the injury in the first quarter of the Spurs’ loss to the Bucks last night. He was examined today by team physician David Schmidt, and an MRI confimed the torn hamstring. The 28-year-old Ford, a lottery pick in the 2003 draft, has played for the Bucks, Raptors, Pacers and now the Spurs in his nine-year NBA career. Ford was averaging 4.2 points, 3.8 assists and 1.4 rebounds per game off the bench, backing up Spurs point guard Tony Parker. The 6-4 Spurs will take on the Rockets without Ford tonight. http://tracking.si.com/2012/01/12/spurs-guard-t-j-ford-will-miss-4-6-weeks-with-torn-hamstring/ Spurs are really going to have to fight to stay afloat over the next month or so. In a normal season you probably wouldn't be too concerned with Manu and Ford's injuries but when you consider how much more impactful a month/month and a half long injury is, you have to wonder if the Spurs may find themselves a bit too far behind in a tight Western Conference when they finally get healthy. Ford isn't putting up huge numbers or anything like that, but he has had a pretty solid impact for the Spurs and losing him now, with Manu out, really hurts their backcourt depth. Finch23
TJ was just starting to really figure things out. He wasn't putting up huge numbers, but he was running the 2nd unit very well. When Manu went down he had the ability to break the defense down with his penetration and find the open man. Now the Spurs will have to rely on Neal as the back up PG, at some point they need to try out Cory Joseph and see what he can do!
