Built Ford Tough
What do you think is the cause for the Spurs abysmal play on the road to start the season? They have been lights out at home going 9-0. They are scoring 103 ppg, shooting 48% from the field and 43% from three. They are holding opponents to just 90 ppg, 42% from the field and 28% from three. Yet on the road they are 0-5. They are scoring just 95.6 ppg, shooting 45% from the field and 34% from three. Their opponents are scoring 109 ppg, shooting 53% from the field and 50% from three. So why do you believe the Spurs struggle so much when getting out on the road? Is losing Manu Ginobili the biggest reason? The Spurs have historically been a veteran team, but this season, other than Duncan and Manu, they are relatively young. Has their relative inexperience been to blame? They were a young team last season yet still managed to go a solid 25-16 on the road. Is it just a case of a small sample size? They have played some fairly good teams on the road this season in Houston, OKC, Miami, Minnesota and Milwaukee (who, up until last night, were undefeated at home). Or is it some other reason? Finch23
5 words.... Matt Bonner and Richard Jefferson! These guys have always been HORRIBLE on the road.
Finch23
Also weren't 3 of the road losses the 2nd game of a B2B? That also has a lot to do with it....
Built Ford Tough
5 words.... Matt Bonner and Richard Jefferson! These guys have always been HORRIBLE on the road. Jefferson has performed basically the exact same at home as he has on the road. His career averages at home are 16.8 ppg/5.1 rpg/2.8 apg on 47.5 FG% and 37.2 3PT%His career averages on the road are 15.8 ppg/4.8 rpg/2.5 apg on 46.4 FG% and 36.8 3PT% If you want to just look at his time in San Antonio, it is still pretty much an even split: Last season at home he averaged 11.3/4.1/1.1 on 48.6%/44.7%Last season on the road he averaged 10.7/3.6/1.5 on 46.2%/43.2% 2009/10 was pretty much the same as well. He averaged a point less on the road, but grabbed a board more on the road. Bonner's career home/road splits are even closer than Jeffersons. Although this year he (Jefferson) has played noticeably worse on the road (3 less points and shooting 10% worse), so that defintiely could be a factor for the Spurs struggles on the road. I probably should have looked at that first, haha.
Finch23
Jefferson is a soft choker plain and simple. If the game is "meaningful" or "on the line" Jefferson and Bonner go M.I.A.
