Phightins
It's great news. A lot of money, but less than he'd have gotten on the open market. Barring injuries or a Lincecum-esque collapse, he should be worth close to every penny. And he will only be 34 when the deal ends. Very manageable. Cobb
Get excited Phightins! Yes, Domonic Brown is on his way to Washington DC. — Todd Zolecki (@ToddZolecki) July 31, 2012 EDIT: Phillies have traded Victorino to Dodgers for Lindblom and Ethan martin — Tim Brown (@TBrownYahoo) July 31, 2012 EDIT 2: Pence to Giants talk is pretty hot.#Philliestalk — Jim Salisbury (@JSalisburyCSN) July 31, 2012 Edited July 31, 2012 by Cobb
Phightins
Love the Victorino deal. Meh on the Pence deal, but I guess that's market value. Tommy Joseph is a nice get, but I was hoping for a bit more. It's kind of silly to look at this in retrospect, but what a disaster the Pence tenure was. Traded great prospects for one OK year of him, traded him away for much lesser prospects. This one will haunt us for a decade, most likely. Phightins
So long, Joe B. It's been real. Despite the shit he has taken from fans in recent years, he was a hell of a big piece of the 2008 team. Contributions won't be forgotten! Phightins
Also, Cliff Lee claimed on waivers by the Dodgers, and all the idiot Phillies fans with no concept for how the baseball waiver system works proceed to freak out. Maybe I am insane, but losing that contract would definitely not be the worst thing....

Phightins
After this past series, I am guessing Ruben Amaro is fully prepared to write Michael Bourn a blank check...

Phightins
Brian Schneider to the DL. Steven Lerud, he of the .654 OPS in AA this season, gets called up to the Majors. Yes, a 28 year old with 9 career AAA games to his name (and none this season). But I definitely prefer this over rushing along Sebastian Valle or Tommy Joseph. Guessing Lerud doesn't see any game time unless Kratz gets hurt. Always cool to see these career minor leaguers get a shot in the Majors, though. Phightins
Darin Ruf in AA this season: .317/.408/.622, 36 HRs (18 in August). Unreal season, just sucks that he is 25 years old, still in AA, and plays first base. Will be fun to watch if he gets a look in September, though. Phightins
Tyler Cloyd MLB debut tonight. I don't have terribly high expectations, but it's something interesting at least.

Phightins
Love the potential of the 2013 bullpen. Just wish Papelbon wasn't around to block everybody for the next four years (yes, you win this one ECN). Really hoping Aumont, DeFratus, Horst, and Diekman get to pitch in the majority of the high leverage innings this month. Phightins
So yeah, the Phillies totally just lost 3 of 4 to the Astros with the season on the line.
Phightins
Cliff Lee this season: 211 IP, 3.16 ERA, 207 strikeouts 28 walks, 1.11 WHIP, 3rd in NL in WAR, 1st in xFIP. Oh, but he had a 6-9 record, he sucks. Hating you, Phillies fans. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/Picture1-124.pnghttp://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/Picture2-20.pnghttp://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/Picture3-5.pnghttp://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/Picture4-2.pnghttp://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/Picture5-1.pnghttp://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/Picture6-1.png
Phightins
In other news, Pete Mackanin, Greg Gross, and Sam Perlozzo were all fired pretty much right after the game today. Coaching staff will look much different next season. I'd imagine Ryne Sandberg is the bench coach (and manager in 2014?). Always shitty to see coaches canned for stuff that is not their fault. Phightins
Ryne Sandberg (3rd base), Steve Henderson (hitting), and Rod Nichols (bullpen) added to coaching staff today. All 3 were in the organization last year.
Phightins
Michael Martinez outrighted off the 40 man roster (about time) and David Herndon claimed off waivers by Toronto (ugh). I always liked Herndon. Really, really solid for a rule 5 guy, and he was quietly pretty effective when he was healthy. Nice pickup for the Blue Jays.
