Kobe: Trade Pau, or leave him alone

Kobe Bryant upset with Lakers' management over Gasol's situation

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – Well, Kobe Bryant has apparently had enough. He’s fed up with the Los Angeles Lakers’ front office and their handling of the trade rumors surrounding Pau Gasol, rumors that have been swirling since before Christmas. With the Lakers suffering an ugly loss to the Phoenix Suns Sunday and Bryant’s mood darkening with every underwhelming performance by his team, he clearly cannot take it anymore. He lashed out at Lakers’ management and defended Gasol, who was almost traded in that three-team deal that would have sent Chris Paul to the Lakers that was later squashed by NBA Commissioner David Stern. In a nutshell, Bryant wants the Lakers to either trade Gasol or leave him alone so he can play free of the foolishness. More from Mike Bresnahan of The Los Angeles Times:

“I wish management would come out and either trade him or not trade him,” Bryant said crisply after the Lakers’ 102-90 loss Sunday. “It’s just tough for a player to give his all when you don’t know if you’re going to be here tomorrow. I’d rather them not trade him at all, but if they’re going to do something, I wish they would just … do it.”

Bryant sympathized with Gasol, sprinkling in expletives while talking about the situation of the four-time All-Star.

“If they’re not going to do it, come out and say you’re not going to do it. This way, he can be comfortable and go out and can perform and play and he can invest all of himself into the game. You can’t have one of our pillars not knowing if he’s going to be here or not. Do something. One way or another, do something.” Bryant said.

Management has really dropped the ball this year.

Badly. They have HUGE holes at PG and SF, and yet they give away one of their only 4 valuable trade chips (Odom) for essentially nothing. They still have the TPE, which might net them a decent player, but they've pretty much backed themselves into a corner where they need to trade either Bynum or Gasol to give them the pieces to properly fill out their roster.

Kobe's a great player, but a whiney little bitch. Shut up and play.

He's not saying to trade Gasol to get help, he's saying to make a decision, so Gasol is mentally ready to finish the season with us or some other team.

this is such a stupid post. he's playing fine, he's trying to stick up for his teammate

How long until we hear him cry about the Lakers not getting D12 or some other superstar. He's been catered to his entire career. Yes, he is an excellent player that should be catered to, to some extent, but he needs everything to go his way. He's not the Lakers management. He's a player on the team and should shut up and play the game.

I'm aware that's what he is saying. What he needs to do is not call out management the way he did. He's had everything done for HIM his entire career. It's about time he just shuts up and plays the game.

Obviously you have never played a sport, because having a teammate stick up for you can go a long way.

It's a little thing called being a good team mate. I bet Pau has told him that he wishes management would make up their mind, and Kobe feels bad for him. Being a whiny bitch would be whining to the media about his team playing like crap or demanding a trade or something.

Being whiney would be complaining that management needs to make up their mind, and PUBLICLY stating that. He's been a whiner his entire career, and management has catered to his ass for years. If he cares about the situation, handle it behind close doors, not in public.

Maybe it would have been better to handle the matter with management in private. Whose to say he hasn't already discussed it with them or something, and they still haven't done anything. Maybe he's giving them a taste of their own medicine considering they've been so public with the availability of Pau, instead of keeping it private like they should be.

 Urging the management to do something (when it's crystal clear to everyone that it's URGENT) isn't actually 'whining'.

Mitch Kupchak replied to the statement by Kobe

“As a former player, I understand how the days leading up to the trade deadline can be nerve-wracking for an NBA player. Nonetheless, as General Manager of the Lakers, I have a responsibility to ownership, our fans and the players on this team to actively pursue opportunities to improve the team for this season and seasons to come. To say publicly that we would not do this would serve no purpose and put us at a competitive disadvantage. Taking such a course of action at this time would be a disservice to ownership, the team and our many fans.

All I know is if we trade Pau we better get some great players back for him, because if we pull another Odom trade.. shit is going to hit the fan.
