I think it is cool that the Mets are honoring Chipper and I hope the Phillies do the same. I was at Bobby Cox's last game here a few seasons ago, and they had a very nice ceremony.

Yeah like "thanks for owning us for 14 straight years, especially in 99. oh yeah and naming your son Shea ha we see what you did there!" Maybe we will honor Scott rolen and Met favorite Pat Burrell too!

I never thought one team could have so many tools on it, but I've been proven wrong.

Arencibia got his ass handed to him.

And, it's just another reason you don't give a long-term contract to a 42 year old juicer.

Would be true if your were expecting production past age 39. With these type of contracts A-rod/Pujols. you're really give 7 year 250 mil deals with the last few years as a toss in...

Gotta pay the cost to be the boss, blame the Yankees...

And Carl Crawford is proving why you don't give guys who rely on their legs 100+ mil deals with most of the money getting paid to them in their 30's

Oh yeah, and John Lackey proved why you don't give injury prone pitchers 5 year deals especially when they are well into their prime and even coming out of it, and pitched in a weaker division their enitre career

I can play this game all day

Jason Bay proved that you don't give streaky hitters in their 30's big deals, especially when their game doesn't even match your ball park...

MLB proved that you are going to have terrible deals made every year when you have an open market system with little to no restrictions on contracts...

He was a big part of the team in 2000's, you can argue Met of the decade, a fan favorite, record holder, and probably the greatest SS in Mets history. Don't get the lol. If you want to lol, lol at the fact we are honoring Chipper Jones.

Yes. very honarable type of guy. left to join division rival in PRIME of his career. had no historic moment with the Mets, never won anything, and walked off the field to make sure he won the batting title.

lets honor

Bartolo Colon threw 38 consecutive strikes during his start in Anaheim last night. Also, Cliff Lee and Matt Cain put on quite the show.

Why didn't the Yankees keep him?!

lol, Marlins aren't really a rival, and I can't blame him, they offered him more money, we let him walk. It's not like he would have left if we matched their offer or came close. They wanted him more than us. It's gotta suck as a player to know your own hometown team in NY won't outbid the Florida Marlins for you. I have no quarrels with the decisions Jose Reyes made down the stretch of his career, and we aren't the Yankees, we don't judge success off winning the championship every year. Jose Reyes was the MVP of the best team the Mets put together in the past 10 years, good enough for me.

To honor him after he just left months ago is [expletive]ing wack bro. I don't give a [expletive] what you say, it's a marketing plea to try to draw attention to the Mets and sell tickets. Which is sad, because the Mets are doing well this year and people should go for the sake of SUPPORTING the TEAM.

Jose Reyes was a good player. He wasn't great. He wasn't a LEGEND. Stop acting like he's [expletive]ing Tom Seaver or something. The Mets never won shit, it was consistent frustration in the Reyes era. He chose not to stay with them. If you want to honor him 10 years down the road when he's washed up or something because he was a good player for your franchise for a decade, I have no problem with that. But to honor him when he's playing in your division (Marlins may not be the biggest rival, still playing in your division though...) in his prime and just walked for more $ (which I don't blame him for....) is crazy to me man.

First of all, why are you getting so emotional over this? Lol. Secondly, this is not a marketing plea at all, Jose Reyes was a Met for just as long as Mike Piazza, longer than David Wright, Carlos Beltran, and anyone elese who is a Met today. The Mets are honoring him because, yes he is one of the greatest Mets of all time. Sad as that is to say. He is second all time for the Mets in Hits, third all time in doubles, first in triples, runs, and steals, and like I said, the greatest Mets SS of all time. Why wait a decade to honor him? I have no problem with this at all, it's not like the Mets and Marlins have a long heated rivalry and even if they did it wouldn't be a problem. The Mets even gave Pedro a little video when he came back to NY AS A MEMBER OF THE PHILLIES, DURING THE RIVALRY. There is no problem wtih do this. Obviously he isn't a [expletive]ing legend, and obviously he isn't Tom Seaver the greatest Met of all time.

Oh yeah and even if it was for marketing, which it isn't, the Mets aren't that desperate to gets fans to the ball park, it would only be justified that the fans did come out and honor one of our favorite players of all time.

I understand you appreciated his time there.

But the way the guy went out is all you need to know. No need to honor him. At least not now...

And Mike Piazza is way different than Reyes. He's a guy worth honoring. Not Jose Reyes.

JMO I guess.
