Rockets, Timberwolves remain in hot pursuit of Pau Gasol

Looks like the Rockets are trying to get back in the sweepstakes but I still don't see them parting with Lowry nor will the Lakers deal Pau without Kyle in the deal.

Houston, whose acquisition of Pau Gasol in the ill-fated trade that would've sent Chris Paul to the Lakers, also remains in hot pursuit of the Spaniard, sources say. So are the Timberwolves, who would like to pair Gasol with Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio. The Lakers, however, are unwilling to trade Gasol unless they get a comparable All-Star in return -- preferably one who could provide the guard penetration they're so sorely lacking.

Houston has continued to aggressively probe the Lakers on a potential Pau Gasol trade, but there's no deal close, league sources tell Y!

Scola, Martin & Dragic package would be pretty nice. Great backcourt power and a good defensive PF who can do some damage in low post.

Why would Houston completely gut their team for Pau, who is marginally better than Scola at this point? Scola was an 18 and 8 big man last year shooting over 50%. LA would be lucky to get Martin OR Scola along with another decent piece for Pau.

If I am LA, I am trying my heart out to convince Kahn that Williams doesn't have a future there with Pekovic and Love up front, and Beasley being the same player but with a tenth of the value.

Why would LA lose an all-star big man for anything less than youth or all-star talent? Scola still isn't as good as Gasol, and Dalembert is worthless to us.

In addition to that, I wouldn't want Kevin Martin on this team. He's not a small forward, and Kobe shouldn't move up to SF, either.

Dragic isn't the PG we need.

Williams and Beasley for Gasol works if we're just trying to find young talent, but we aren't budging on Gasol without a PG in the deal, unless we have one lined out for our TPE...and I've yet to hear about that.

Antawn Jamison was a 21 ppg player when Washington originally dealt him to Cleveland... they got one first round pick from the top tanked team in the league. Obviously Pau is better than Jamison, but I think you have the bar set really high for what you are going to get back for him, too high, and if he is dealt, either LA is going to fleece someone, or you are going to be disappointed. Like I have said before, I think a player like Pau is more valuable to the team he is on than other teams.

If Pau's value was high, don't you think he would be gone by now? Dude isn't getting any younger, has a heart 3 sizes to small, and makes franchise player money... all of that equals teams not lining up to ship the farm out for him. If I am the Lakers, I just hold onto him, which I think is likeliest since LA seems like a pretty stingy team in trades.

Nope. That's not how the Lakers go about business, and most teams in the NBA will wait it out, to make sure someone like Dwight Howard isn't going to be on the block on the 14th. I can assure you that's what the Rockets and Warriors are waiting for, probably Boston as well.

Gasol is a good player, but Howard is a superstar. If the Warriors (for example) think they can trade half of their team for Howard, they will wait it out and still have the Lakers on the line on the 14th or 15th, because they know that LA will be doing the same (since they also want DH12).

It makes a lot of sense to me that Boston is interested, even if they didn't want to trade Rondo. Having a center would do wonders for them. Golden State is interested mainly because they also need a big, and Jerry West is in love with Pau's game. Houston has been interested since December, and that was confirmed by the CP3 trade. Makes sense that Minnesota would be because of Rubio. Orlando wants Drew + Gasol if they were to finally put Howard on the block. Philly was rumored to want him for Iguodala, at one point, before someone decided to flip that around and say it was Odom (or vice-versa).

That's five that make sense, and were rumored to want Gasol, all coming from legitimate sources (didn't count Philly because I have no idea where that came from). I'm sure those teams are still interested, and there may be a few others.

I'm not expecting superstars if we trade JUST Gasol...but there's no way we should trade a big man for guys we really don't need, doesn't matter the talent they have, unless they are very, very good players (we don't need Wade, but I'm not that stupid...I'd move Kobe to the three for him to play the two, or even let him play the point...pipe dream that will never happen, but you know what I'm saying).

I think it was Mannix who said that the Lakers don't want to pay $19 million for a third option, and its part of why they would like to move him. Anyways Houston/LA aren't good trade partners and I doubt a deal happens without a third or fourth team. Lowry won't move no matter what happens.
