Kobe comments on Fisher trade

Recommended Posts

“I’ve been here a while and had some of my closest friends go starting with Caron (Butler), (Ronny) Turiaf, Lamar (Odom) and now Derek,” Bryant said a day after the Lakers traded Fisher to the Rockets. “I’ve been through it many times before.”

“It was very difficult. I’m not used to it,” Bryant said about not seeing Fisher on the floor. “I’ve been with him pretty much my entire career aside from the little stint he had away from us. So it’s very different. It’s pretty weird. ”

Bryant said the two exchanged several texts after the news broke of the trade, sharing stories and laughs.

“He knows how I am,” Bryant said. “We talked about the good times and you know what a fun time we had going into battle together.

He'll always be a Laker. Ya, it sucks that he doesn't get to retire here, but we weren't going to win anything with him as our starting pg. Fish is just 37 and not a starter on a championship team. But I'm not worried about Fisher at all. Like Mitch said, anywhere he will go he's going to be successful. I hope though that one way or another, he'll make it back to this organization.

He earned each and every one of those championships he won with Lakers. So the difference he makes will be noticed. Especially in the locker room. I can just imagine a grim scenario in half time of a playoff game. Who's going to step up and be the voice to lead a charge? No one would be able to do it better than Fish..... lolnostalgia.

The Lakers just went 7 - 2 after the all star break with Derek Fisher; Steve Nash is 38 an arguably the best point gaurd in the league while Jason Kidd just won a championship around that same tender age of 38.

I just do not understand all the hype around Ramon Sessions, both he and Fisher average nearly the same production in the same amount of minutes played.

Well, for one, he's in Cleveland, and he had his starting role taking from him by Irving. As a starter last season, Sessions did very well...efficient and controlled, passed the ball, scored 13+ a night.

The Lakers have been able to win with Fisher in recent years because of the triangle offense. Simply put, the triangle asked him to be a spot-up shooter, nothing more.

Us winning games really had little to do with him this year, and more to do with Kobe needing to step up his scoring, while Drew and Gasol had to facilitate out of the post more.

To take pressure off of our big three, we needed a true point guard, a guy that is a willing passer, one that can get into the paint and kick the ball back out to shooters and take the ball out of Kobe's hands from time to time. Sessions is far more athletic than Fisher, which helps fill that need...but he also knows how to operate in that role.

Almost as important is Sessions being able to play defense against the quicker point guards...or ANY PG in general. When Jose Calderon hits his career high in points THIS SEASON, you know it's time to make changes.

Jose Calderon is not a bad player though by any means. I understand from a business point this move; Ramon Sessions' defense gives the Lakers flexibility to run a two guard set with KB at the two or three occasionally, and it gives the Lakers longevity at the point guard position for after number 24 retires.

You got to take the good with the bad, players get traded everyday and since KB seems ok with it the front office definitely made the right move. Moves like this are why the Lakers remain on top and I have nothing but respect and admiration for thier organization.

Trading Fisher had to be tough for the franchise and the fans. I think he's one of the most underrated players of all time. LAL fans may not think that because I think they knew how valuable he was over the years; but I think across the country he's undervalued a lot.

I don't mind the trade though because like RD said it was time for a more athletic, younger PG who can facilitate a bit more than Fisher. Just always tough to see an all-time great go.
