SRV
I wonder if they take into account the money they will lose from people who buy jerseys.....don't think people would like to buy jerseys with ads all over them, unless only the players where ads and the fan merch is ad free. The Regime
So technically this is just another way to help big market teams lol. Owners make more profits and the luxury tax doesn't become that much of an issue. I've owned one jersey ever, and that was a Kobe #8 white home jersey when they first came out. I've never been much of a fan so it's not that big of a deal for me. I just hope teams don't get carried away with the ads. As long as the appeal of the jersey isn't compromised I'm all for it. Throw Away to Worthy
I am not looking forward to this, but not surprised. It is sad to see these ppl stoop so low and risk alienating the fans. Not saying that I'll stop going to games but I'm def going to get a Kemba jersey now while it's still "clean." I'd be interested to know how much it would cost to sponsor a team like the Lakers, Knicks, or Heat, especially when considering the global impact of jersey sales in China, Europe and South America. Based on the most basic Google search it looks like Aon's deal with Man Utd is estimated to be just over $30M a yr. Soccer jerseys, however, have a much larger ad while the club patch is roughly the size of the ads NBA teams will wear. Imagine the disparity between the teams above and the Bobcats who I am afraid will end up with a horrible sponsor like Bengay, Preparation H, ExLax or Viagra. http://blogs.riverfronttimes.com/dailyrft/bad-news-bears-cap1.jpg

YugoRocketsFan
Theres nothing wrong with it, especially if one team has just one main sponsor. I kind of like the look of jerseys from Europe http://bloguin.com/crossoverchronicles/images/stories/olympiakos_1.jpg Whats wrong with a jersey like this? Snap's Distinct Phelps
Not a fan. Makes basketball jerseys absolutely unfashionable. Watch NBA jerseys sales go down, and they rethink this idea later on after a few years.

Lkr
i heard someone say that this would be like the advertising on the olympics jerseys. i didn't see any olympics advertising, so i assume they just mean the nike logo on the jersey. if that is all it was, i wouldn't really notice it tbh. nfl, cfb, cbb, etc jerseys have the manufacturer logo on them

Sħãlïq™
Report suggests the NBA has decided on a 2014 date to introduce ads on jerseys http://media.zenfs.com/en/blogs/sptusnbaexperts/Kemba11512.jpg Totally what it's going to look like. (Getty Images) (...) Right now, we're going back to firing lobs at the NBA's duplicitous initial report regarding the "tabling" of NBA jersey ad sales from Oct. 25th's NBA Board of Governors meeting. (...) Buried deep in Lawrence's Sunday notes column was this item: NBA owners left the Board of Governors meetings in Las Vegas happy in one regard: The long-awaited move of putting advertising patches on jerseys becomes official in two seasons, meaning the league is going to find a new way to fill its coffers. Deputy commissioner Adam Silver projects the ads will contribute $100 million per season, with the revenue expected to be split 50-50 between owners and players, since it will be part of the basketball-related income pool. Patches will measure two inches by two inches and will be stitched onto the jersey's shoulder. Now, this news comes in direct opposition to what the league disclosed to several media outlets two weeks ago, including ESPN's Darren Rovell: The idea was to have a company pay to have its logo on a 2-inch-by 2-inch patch on the jersey front. But sources say the parties found that selling space on jerseys is quite complicated, and they needed more time to study it before the NBA becomes the first major sports league in the U.S. to sell an ad on its jerseys. Complications could include issues of exclusivity and conflicts with player endorsements. Do NBA teams have to eliminate competitors of official sponsors in every category? What happens if a team sells a sponsorship to a company that competes with a company that the star player is endorsing?Read More
DunkinDerozan
I won't be surprised when the other major leagues start doing this. Kind of sucks but I guess its not really a big deal as long as they keep them moderately small and it doesn't conflict with the jerseys colours too much. Gooner
Who cares? Just watch any NBA game, adverts are all over the place. If this would cut some of the timeouts and commercials killing the flow of them game, I'd be all for it. But of course that won't happen. crabbylion
No way, man. They essentially already advertise like the boxers do with the tattoos. Keep the NBA jerseys looking classic and clean. Forget that nonsense! <_<
