2012 MVP

List in order.

Kevin Durant : 27 points, and 8 rebounds per game while leading his team to the second best record in the league. And he has come out on against top players like Kobe and Lebron. Its his year.

LeBron James : 27 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists per game. James stats and the third best record really says it all. But i think he will be a runner up as I don't think they are going to give it to him for the third time, and Durant has out played him head to head.

Tony Parker : 20 points, 8 assists per game. His stats don't come out and slap anyone but he has been running the show down in San Antonio basically all year especially with Duncan being limited by Pop and Manu basically being hurt all year. Team record means alot when it comes to winning MVP and he has the Spurs in fourth place in the league. Not to mention he is the only allstar on the team, while the other top 4 of the five teams have multiple allstars.

Kobe Bryant : 28 points 5 rebounds and 5 assists per game. Kobe is having once again a great year statically but imo he is doing it in the manner of quantity rather of quality as he is shooting a poor 42% (Parker 47%, Durant 50%, LeBron 53%). But even with the poor shooting he has the Lakers top 5 in the league which says alot.

Kevin Love : 26.5 points 14 rebounds per game. If the MVP award was handed out simply on statistical basis he would be sky high on this list but unfortunately it isn't as team record has alot to do with it. Regardless he deserves some love as he is playing the most minutes per game and is 4th on the list ppg and 2en on the rpg.

1. LBJ - No one has been as good/dominant as him this year. His impact at both ends of the floor really doesn't even make it a contest IMO. The 9-1 record without Wade is pretty impressive as well. He should get DPOY as well.

2. KD - I don't buy the whole he shouldn't win if he has another star around him bullshit. KD has been excellent this year.

3. Kevin Love - what more can you say about this guy? He's been absolutely incredible especially since Rubio has been out.

4. Kobe - I'm hesitant to put him on here ahead of Parker because AT TIMES this year in a few games its seemed like he's almost held them back a bit with his style but he's been great this season.

5. Tony Parker - He's been phenomenal this year for the Spurs. It was him or CP3 at this spot but the Spurs record is no fluke with the way Parker is playing this year.

No one has guarded the 1-4 positions as effectively as he has to be honest. Iguodala would be my runner-up.

If the Thunder end up with the better record (over Miami), Durant should get it. Don't break tradition.

I'd throw Rose in the mix again, but Chicago has been pretty damn good without him.

There's no way Kobe will get it, doesn't matter what is done, so I'm not going to consider him. Same with Dwight Howard.

Kevin Love has no shot because of his team (Minnesota has to win 40 games - equivalent of a traditional 50-win season - for him to be considered...and they are at 25 wins as we speak, losing record).

Parker is playing well, but not on the level of anyone I've named (aside from Love, which is debatable, depends on how you look at it).

LBJ made a pretty strong case for both awards tonight but DPOY moreso to me. KD had 9 turnovers tonight with LBJ almost exclusively on him minus a few switches.

Durant tore into his ass the first meeting (and Durant caused him more trouble than almost anyone else on the other end of the court, also)...one game doesn't justify him winning the award. LeBron had eight turnovers against DeShawn Stevenson and the Nets back in January...are you considering DeShawn?

I knew you were a closet DeShawn fan...biggest on the board, I believe. ^_^

------

Topic isn't about the DPOY, but to clarify, I wasn't saying LeBron didn't deserve consideration...just that the nine turnovers by Durant weren't all due to James, and that shouldn't propel him into the lead for the award anyway.

I would give it to LBJ unless OKC finishes considerably higher up in the standings than MIA, which is doubtful. He has simply been the better player, and neither of their supporting casts is better/worse enough to swing the debate in either of their favours.

Also LBJ should not win DPOTY. That award will continue to be placed in Dwight's trophy case until Anthony Davis takes it from him. I am a firm believer that wings should not even be considered for this award unless they are incredibly dominant. LBJ is a great defender, but big men anchor the defense. Dwight continues to anchor a team full of misfits to a respectable defense.

LBJ can't win MVP because he plays with another superstar player, so why can Durant?

Playing with Bosh and Wade is nothing like playing with Westbrook and Harden. Come on now.

It still easily comes down to LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

It's Durant right now IMO. But the final 12-14 games are important, I think. Whoever ends up with a better record probably gets it and fair enough.

It's pretty close. Also, you can't not mention Perkins and Ibaka (huge factors when you consider Miami's interior defense is non-existent). Top to bottom, their teams are pretty close to a wash in my opinion. Also, at this point, just comparing the 2nd/3rd best players on each team, I don't think it would be insane to say that Westbrook and Harden are close to as good, or just a bit lower than Wade and Bosh.. and Harden is a better 3rd option than Bosh (not necessarily better player, but 3rd option)... then you add the superior tole players that OKC has... I don't think the "worse team" argument can really apply this year.

I agree with you that the team with the better record should have the MVP... but if their records are only a game or two apart, give it to LBJ, because he is having a better season, this is something that cannot be disputed.

I don't know if Harden is a better option than Bosh. Bosh, LeBron and Wade are a more balanced three than KD/RW/JH since all three play guard/perimeter type of games.

Wade is definitely better than Westbrook. And we can debate Bosh and Harden all day, but at the end of it I think that's somewhat irrelevant. What's more relevant is, how would OKC fair if you took Durant off the team tomorrow? Same with LeBron and Miami.

The MVP isn't about the best player, but rather the most valuable. I think Miami would be a very good team without LeBron for an extended stretch. OKC, I'm not sure how'd they be with turnover-city Westbrook leading the franchise and all their scoring coming from the backcourt.
