Owner Real Deal Posted April 11, 2012 Owner Report Share Posted April 11, 2012 What? From practice, Dwyane Wade on Olympics: "We're not playing for the dollar but it would be nice if we were to get compensated.''http://twitter.com/#!/MiamiHeraldHeat/status/190139729839259648
Flash
Way to take it out of context lol. I'd be willing to bet he was laughing and joking around while making that statement. Edited April 11, 2012 by Flash

Didn't you say yourself that his attitude has changed over the years?

Built Ford Tough
Doesn't the U.S Olympic Committee pay you if you win a medal anyways? Something like $20-25K for a gold, $15K for a silver and $10K for a bronze? If that is the case, they are basically guaranteed $10K and more than likely $25K. What more do players (not just Wade, as other players have said this before) want? Its not like they make millions and millions of dollars or anything like that. Oh, wait... EDIT: Also, it is once every four years and nobody is even forcing you to go. If you don't like that you aren't getting paid, well, don't play. Nobody is forcing you to. I'm sure there are many other players around the country that would jump at the opportunity and couldn't care less if they were paid or not.

Owner Real Deal Posted April 11, 2012 Author Owner Report Share Posted April 11, 2012 Lol why is it assumed that he is asking to get paid? He's not asking, but he's saying it would be nice if they did get paid. He's playing for his country. It's an honor to be an Olympian. He gets paid when he wins a medal. It's once every four years. No reason to even say anything like that. How about, "We aren't playing for the dollar. It would be nice to play every summer, though, and win gold for our country as many times as possible." Flash
Smh whatever you say. Your kidding yourself if you think he's serious about wanting to get paid to play in the Olympics. Its not like he's holding out or something. I'll leave it at that.

Yes, I agree that he should be "honored" to play for his country and shouldn't need money to play, but that's just not the way it is today unfortunately. It's nice to think that people will put money aside and just play for pride, but that's not how it is today. Generally, I will never fault and athlete for chasing the money as at the end of the day, it's a business, but I don't think they should get a fortune for playing in the Olympics. There should be some happy medium, and from what I've read they still get paid for winning a medal. Not to mention that they are getting a TON of exposure which could help with jersey sales and each player's shoe deals..... Smh whatever you say. Your kidding yourself if you think he's serious about wanting to get paid to play in the Olympics. Its not like he's holding out or something. I'll leave it at that. I think you're kidding yourself if you think he wasn't serious. He's not going to just say it in a joking manner.
The Regime
Compensation*** Just saying, not trying to be a smartass. But honestly Olympic play is about representing your country and yourself as a citizen of that country. Asking for money in this situation is just stupid and greedy of Wade. Flash
Well turns out he does believe they should be paid and well..he's wrong. Him and Ray Allen can have their opinions but IMO they're both wrong here. Just do what you gotta do to win a gold medal and you'll get yours. LeBron's quote about it: "I love representing my country, man," James said. "I've done it since 2004 and I'm looking forward to doing it in London. As far as (pay), I don't know, man. It doesn't matter. I'm happy to be a part of the team, to be selected again." Edited April 12, 2012 by Flash

It's a past participle of compensate, and using it as saying he wants compensated for the work he has done (I'm assuming they are practicing every summer) and what he will do. Check my Stats
I get it if a 36 year old Wade (or however old he will be next time) doesn't want to play, but because of money or something? God damn that is incredibly annoying. Every player thinks they are a god damn businessman these days.
