Lemon
One of the West general managers said Davis "is probably going to be better than Blake Griffin," and his GM colleague upped the ante by saying he expects him to be better than 14-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett. "There's not one doubt in my mind that he's going to be way better than Blake Griffin," the second GM said. "I don't even think it's going to be close. I think he might end up being a little better than KG. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/sam_amick/05/01/nba.draft/index.html They also compare him to a Camby with a better offensive game. He's got high expectations.

Flash
Oh Jesus just stop That's not coming from me. Duncan as a freshman was extremely raw. That comparison was actually made by Dick Vitale and others. Edited May 2, 2012 by Flash

Lemon
From Abro's article, the final 20 may be: Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Kobe Bryant, Tyson Chandler, Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay, Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin, Andre Iguodala, LeBron James, Kevin Love, Odom, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, Russell Westbrook, Deron Williams, Greg Monroe, Al Jefferson, DeMarcus Cousins, and Anthony Davis. I think that's 20. There's quite a few people he'll have to beat to be on the actual team. If he actually makes the final 12 it will say a lot, but I don't see it happening. Al Jefferson is the only other big guy there I think that they'd take over him. Cousins needs to show he's mature enough mentally to play on the team and no shot Monroe gets in over Davis. No one is asking these 5's to score, just to provide defense and length around the rim, both of which are the best things Chandler and Davis do. NomarFachix
Marc J. Spears @SpearsNBAYahoo Yahoo! Sports has received confirmation that USA Basketball will add Thunder F James Harden & Kentucky F-C Anthony Davis, a source said.
Check my Stats
James Harden would be a terrific add for this team. Plays within himself incredibly well and brings a lot of intangibles to the table. Would really like to see him get on there but it is pretty unlikely, he will have to wait until the next one when Wade is out, as well as Kobe (well you never know with Kobe lol). This Davis hype needs to stop. Hopefully they show footage of him getting worked in the post by actual big men in the camp. This will be a great experience for him, his first pro practices being against the world's best, but he isn't ready to guard the likes of Pau Gasol right now. He has been guarding 6-8 C's all year who weight around the same as him, put him down there with Pau, Scola, etc and he will be back on the bench immediately with 2 quick fouls, guaranteed. Like I have said, he will be a great shot blocker immediately, but his man defense is going to be suspect. If Davis was 250, then by all means give him a shot, but he isn't. He is a rail, and is going to get overpowered in his first couple years until he either adds weight (unlikely just by looking at his frame) or learns how to compensate for his lack of size. He still needs to learn the pro game before he can play with pros. The college game is incredibly different, especially for big men (fouls). I think in the long-run he is going to be a terrific player, but right now he isn't ready.
Flash
Harden is a great addition because he can be the primary ball handler and play off the ball when needed. Plus, he might be the best pick and roll 2 guard in the league besides Wade. Davis is gonna surprise some people. I'm confident that he makes the final squad. They don't NEED him but he'd be very useful for them defensively. I'd say he's got a better shot to make it than Blake Griffin.
Check my Stats
Blake Griffin is the kind of player who has no place on team USA. He brings literally no intangibles to the table, and is a gigantic bitch.
Owner Real Deal Posted May 4, 2012 Owner Report Share Posted May 4, 2012 I don't like Blake anymore, but the fact that he will be catching oops all game long is intriguing. He would also be a dominant rebounder against most of those players overseas, and if you stick him in the game with Tyson Chandler, his lack of defense won't hurt us as much (and in the Olympics, his athleticism will provide us with shot-blocking against some of the big men we'll face, then we can sit him longer against teams like Spain and Argentina, who have bigs he will struggle defending). Usually, we pull away from the less talented teams by running...and at PF, there's really no better player to have if you're going to run the break as much as possible. Flash
Well LeBron or Durant is going to be starting at the 4 so our best rebounder will come off the bench in Love. I just think Davis is more valuable to the team than Blake would be.

I think Lebron probably starts at the 4, and Love comes off the bench at the 4. Davis would be a good player to have on the team over Griffin because he just brings more to the table. Obviously he's never played against pros yet, but I still think his defense would be much more effective in the Olympics than Griffin, and its not like he'll be doing much on offense with so many offensive superstars on the team. Plus Griffins attitude and play style is probably not what the team wants playing with them.
